Lara Dutta To Take a Short Maternity Break

Lara Dutta To Take a Short Maternity Break

Lara Dutta To Take a Short Maternity Break

Lara Dutta is not planning to take a very long maternity leave. After her baby at the end of February, she plans to produce a film in May and says she may or may not feature in it.

"I am definitely producing another film in May 2012. Yes, it will have me in the lead. And again, like 'Challo Dilli' where my co-star was Vinay Pathak, the pairing would be very unconventional. In case I can't get before the camera I will produce another film without me in the cast in May and then do a film with me in the lead from August," she said.

Lara, who tied the knot with tennis player Mahesh Bhupati this year, says this is a crucial time for the couple. "Mahesh has the Olympics. I've motherhood to look forward to. So we've other important commitments. But I most certainly plan to remain an actress and a producer. It's something that I learnt from Shah Rukh Khan during 'Don 2'.

"He told me he was happy to see actresses turning producers and advised me to continue with my career," said the former beauty queen. For now, the 33-year-old is all charged up for motherhood.
"It's by far the most important role of my life. But there are other roles too. Those cannot be marginalized. I don't do anything half-heartedly. I never became an actress to enhance my bank balance. The zeroes in my cheques never mattered. All the work that I've done so far as an actress is what I really believed in."
After debuting with 'Andaaz' in 2003, she did films like 'No Entry', 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom', 'Partner' and 'Housefull'.

She also featured in 'Don 2' and said: "It's a small role. I did it because I wanted to work with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and with Shah Rukh Khan."

On a more serious note, Lara is set to produce a pre-natal yoga video.
"Pregnancy is treated almost like an illness in some sections of our society. I've been my normal self during pregnancy. I want other women, who get nervous and anxious, to experience the same comfort level and to not feel awkward about their weight or baby bump. Have I been conducting myself with dignity and grace? I don't claim any exclusivity on the condition that I am in. I just feel motherhood should be a happy stress-free period for all women," she said.

Asked whether she wants a boy or a girl, she said: "Mahesh and I have no preferences. We're just happy we'll be parents."

Lavni Dance Storms Bollywood

Lavni Dance Storms Bollywood

After the sizzling 'Sheila Ki Jawani' number, Katrina Kaif is back as 'Chikni Chameli' in Agneepath. The film will be released on January 26, 2012. The lately launched number has already become a rage. The unique blend of traditional Lavani steps and sexy Bollywood moves makes 'Chikni Chameli' impressive.

When people start copying you, it is an indication of your success. Same has happened in the case of 'Chikni Chameli' as well. Shweta Bhardwaj who made her Bollywood debut with Mission Istaanbul will also be seen grooving to a Lavani number in Chaalis Chaurasi. Actors like Kay Kay Menon and Naseeruddin Shah will be seen matching steps with Shweta in the film. Her red 'choli' and Maharshtrian saree looks highly inspired from Kat's outfit in 'Chikni Chameli'. Chaalis Chaurasi will hit screens on January 13, 2012.

Though Shweta looks stunning in the number, but beating Katrina Kaif is no easy task.
Lavani is a form of Maharashtra's folk dance. Bollywood has an old association with this particular dance form. Be it Helen in 'Mungda' song or Madhuri Dixit in 'Humko Ajkal Hai', both the numbers score high on the popularity meter. Madhuri tried to encash the popularity of Lavani again with 'Me Kolahpur Se Ayi Hoon' in Aanjaam.

Lavani is one of the most popular dance forms of Maharashtra. It is known for its powerful rhythm and erotic sentiments. Expressions play a key role in Lavani.

In an interview lately, Katrina Kaif said that 'Chinkni Chameli' wasn't a cakewalk for her as she is not used to the dance form. Many people feel that Katrina looked more sensuous as 'Sheila' in comparison to 'Chikni Chameli'. Whatever be the case, 'Chikni Chameli' is topping the charts at the moment and so is Katrina Kaif. More than Priyanka Chopra, who's the lead heroine of 'Agneepath', people are talking about Katrina's item number.

The makers however, claim that the ban in Qatar won’t make a big difference to the film’s business.

Akshay Kumar Won't Play in His Own Production Oh My God

Akshay Kumar Won't Play in His Own Production Oh My God!

Akshay Kumar was supposed to play Lord Krishna in his next home production based on Paresh Rawal's successful play Krishna Vs Kanhaiya, a story about the clash between an atheist and God. However, Akki, reportedly has opted out of playing God.

The film that has now been titled Oh My God! and is Akshay's first co-production under his recently set up production company Grazing Goat, will be directed by Umesh Shukla, who had also directed the play it is based on. Ashvini Yardi, ex head honcho of a television channel gets into film production with this venture as well.

A source close to the film revealed to Mumbai Mirror, "Originally, Paresh Rawal was supposed to produce the film. But now his company Playtime will be the line producer for the project."

Explaining the reason behind Akshay's decision to opt out of the project, our source added, "Despite having to work on five films in 2012, Akshay tried his best to allot dates to his co-production with Ashvini. However, things failed to fall in place. He is tied up with five films next year- Shirish Kunder's Joker, Prabhu Devaa's Rowdy Rathore, Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Part 2, Ashish Mohan's Khiladi 786 and Neeraj Pandey's Special Chabbis. And Ashwini wanted to put her first film on floors in January 2012."

"Akshay and Ashwini had long meetings. Akshay is still trying to work out his dates, but chances of him remaining in the film are pretty remote. Even the entry scene had been completely worked out keeping Akshay in mind. So, all that will have to be done all over again. A big star will be chosen to replace Akshay," added the source.

According to sources from the industry, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn are being considered to replace Akshay.

Akshay and Ashvini remained unavailable for comment.

Sulagna Panigrahi Opposite Rajat Barmecha in Upcoming Movie

Sulagna Panigrahi Opposite Rajat Barmecha in Upcoming Movie

Sulagna Panigrahi, popular as Dhara of Amber-Dhara fame, took the big leap and entered Bollywood with the thriller, Murder 2. And now she has grabbed her second big project opposite Rajat Barmecha of Udaan fame.

The movie we hear is a youth-centric movie. In Murder 2, the actress played a damsel in distress and couldn’t do the typical dancing and prancing around trees in the movie. However, her wish is fulfilled with her latest movie as not only is she playing a much younger girl but is also going to dance.

Sulagna says, “Yes, I have been selected for a film with Rajat Barmecha and it is a youth oriented movie. I am not allowed to divulge anything else at this stage. It’s a sheer co-incidence that I bumped into Rajat at the film festival, I had attended a few months ago and I had liked the film Udaan very much. And later we were introduced as co-stars in the party. I am looking forward to doing all that a Bollywood heroine does. After doing a film like Murder 2 where I was screaming throughout the film, this film gives me the scope to present my talent in a different way.” Good going girl.

Mallika Sherawat to Sing in Lucky Unlucky

Mallika Sherawat to Sing in Lucky Unlucky

Mallika Sherawat’s comeback film Lucky Unlucky directed by Afzal Rizvi has thrown yet another challenge at the actress. After making her slip into the role of an athlete, he now demands Mallika to exercise her vocal cords as well.

Mumbai Mirror learnt that the actress would now be singing with her co-actor Sonu Sood for a specially composed track in the film.

Composed by Santokh Singh, this song will have Mallika crooning in her native language Haryanvi.
In fact, Santokh Singh has been reportedly, asked to compose the music for the very track in a way that does justice to the untrained voices of both Mallika and Sonu.

When asked about the singing plans, Sonu said , “We are planning something. But if I reveal our music plans now what would be the USP later? We are planning a song that would incorporate sounds from across the country. There will be songs in Punjabi, Haryanvi, Telugu, Tamil and Marathi.”

Since Sonu has worked in Hindi, Punjabi , Tamil and Telugu films, the task of finding the correct music has been assigned to him. “We’re looking at both film and folk songs from these regions. Lucky Unlucky is a road movie that takes Mallika and me across the country. The music will be in the languages of the cities that we visit.”

Luke Kenny Producing a Movie About Zombies

Luke Kenny Producing a Movie About Zombies

Luke Kenny Producing a Movie About Zombies

Bollywood seems to be fascinated with Zombies currently. After Saif Ali Khan announced a zombie-thriller Go Goa Gone and Abhay Deol showed an active interest in the Zombie comedy Rock The Shaadi, it's Luke Kenny's turn to take it forward.

The Rock On star Luke is producing and acting in a film called Zombie. This will be the first film on the origin and making of a zombie in the world. Luke and his partner Devaki Singh are huge zombie films' fans and consider themselves to be experts in that genre.

When contacted, the producer Luke Kenny told Mumbai Mirror, "This film is a Zombie Origin film. Not a zombie comedy, not a zombie survival film. Indian audiences will empathise with the journey of a human being as he is faced with a seemingly insurmountable predicament. Indian and international audiences as will learn the humanity behind the Zombie Origin Saga which is what I along with my partner Devaki Singh are looking to present. This is a first of the many unique stories Kenny Films Pvt Ltd is looking to present to cinema audiences."

The technical team of Rock On has been roped in for the project. And interestingly, even before the first film's release, Luke has already made plans for its sequel called War Of the Zombie next year.

Priyanka Chopra Invites Ileana D'Cruz to Don 2 Screening

Since the time Anurag Basu's Barfee went on floors, and probably even before that, reports of the cold war between the film's two leading ladies made it to the headlines. And finally, tired of the rumours, Priyanka Chopra has decided to put an end to such gossip. The actress has made the first move to break the ice and extended an olive branch to Ileana D'Cruz.

Priyanka invited Ileana, who she believes to be 'an innocent little baby', for a special screening of her new film Don 2 at Yash Raj Studios, reveal friends close to the actress. At the screening, last Thursday, the senior actress even took care of Ileana 'like a sister' said the friend.

"Priyanka was rather miffed with the stories about her not getting along with Ileana. She did not want a repeat of the phase that she had to go through at the beginning of her career when the media pitted her against her Aitraaz co-star Kareena Kapoor. As far as Priyanka is concerned, there was no animosity between her and Kareena. She did not want the same to happen with Ileana," explained a friend of the actress.

After the screening, Ileana was a rather happy girl. She went back and told the Barfee crew about how much she enjoyed the film and Priyanka's company. And now the Barfee crew helmed by Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Basu, have demanded a screening of Priyanka's film which she is only happy to organise.

Don 2 Movie Review

Don 2 Movie Review

Don 2 Movie Review

Both Salman and Shah Rukh Khan are, perhaps, the biggest prisoners of their own success stories in Bollywood. While the former is deeply mired in his ever brooding Bhai image it is SRK, who at times, redeems himself with his suave performances.

No, I certainly have no doubts about their acting prowess. They both are extremely talented gentlemen and a treat to watch on screen. But for that you need to have capable directors like Farhan Akthar or Abhinav Kashyap who don’t get too deferential to the biggest stars of our times. Perhaps that’s why a Chulbul Pandey or Kabir Khan charms the pants off you while Lovely Singh and Shekhar Subramanium look like a poor joke.

So yes, Don 2 is FARHAN AKHTAR’s film who gives us SRK we all love to see – funny, witty and never too loud.

Barely ten minutes into the film and you are sold to his Don who is back with his eviler designs and delectable wisecracks. He is a suitable cousin to Ethan Hunt and Danny Ocean, an anti-hero planning to rob a Berlin bank of its euro printing plates in a daring heist.

To do so he escapes with his old foe, Vardhan (Boman Irani) from a Malaysian prison giving yet another heartburn to ex-flame Roma (Priyanka Chopra) and veteran cop Malik (Om Puri).

What ensues is high octane action, deadly car chases, treachery and of course unpretentious dark humour.

I’m sure the human moments will be missed by some in this slick thriller but then they may have very well worked against the film which has some ruthless men saying very mean things to each other. Well, how can you expect a man like Don to go all mushy over a girl, who puts his enemies under a bone crushing machine and exhorts them to make a right choice by saying “Main Nahi Chahta Tum Kisi Dabav Mein Koi Faisla Lo.”

Shah Rukh Khan is spot on as Don. Perhaps with this film, he is out of the shadow of the original Don. Now, he can certainly look forward to the subsequent sequels of this franchise without getting compared to Mr. Bachchan.

Priyanka Chopra looks convincing as Roma. She is still not over her failed affair with Vijay/Don, looks impervious to his charm before finally giving in. But remember... it’s still complicated.

Lara Dutta glitters in her small cameo as Don’s liaison. Kunal Kapoor as Sameer Ali, Don’s technology consultant, is just okay for his screen space. Hrithik Roshan who makes fleeting appearance as a masquerading Don looks pleasant but sticks out like a sore thumb in otherwise believable Don adventures.

The script is taut. Music and background score are cracking. Songs don’t impede the story telling. The cinematography captures the virgin locales of Berlin in full glory as King Khan goes all wild on German streets.

Farhan Akhtar makes a welcome comeback behind the camera. Undoubtedly an accomplished actor, he should certainly direct more often. A special mention is in order for his writing team Ameet Mehta and Amrish Shah who make Don 2 not only a slick but a smart thriller as well.

So, while catching Don may be an impossible task for the Police force around the world you can and certainly should catch him at a theatre near you.

Delay in Heroine Movie Due to Saif-Kareena Wedding?

His first Heroine (Ash) was expecting a baby and had to go on maternity leave, temporarily halting the shoot of the film. And now Madhur Bhandarkar’s lead actress is getting married, which again alters the plans for his ambitious project. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that even before the current schedule of Heroine can end, the second leg of the shoot has been rescheduled as Kareena is to wed her beau Saif Ali Khan around the same time. A friend of the director revealed to us that the second schedule, initially slated to start from the end of January, has been pushed ahead to the middle of February.

The film’s producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV, who had announced last week that the next schedule of Heroine was to commence “from the end of February to April-May” and then later stated the change in the filming dates, refrained from divulging any further details. When contacted, Bhandarkar also confirmed the change in schedule, saying, “Yes, the second schedule of Heroine will now start in the middle of February instead of the end of January.”

Bhandarkar’s friend explained, “The idea is to complete the second schedule by the middle of March instead of the end of April, so that Kareena can attend to her wedding and personal life in March and April before she returns to work in May.”

According to the director’s friend, Kareena was reluctant to take a break in the middle of the schedule for her wedding. “There is a reason why this decision has been taken. The plan is to complete the schedule, so that Kareena’s performance remains consistent and doesn’t lose the intensity the role demands amidst her wedding plans. This way she gets to enjoy her wedding and honeymoon, before resuming work,” added Bhandarkar’s friend.

There’s no denying that SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER was one of the best films of 2011. Enthused by the tremendous response to the film, Tigmanshu Dhulia is now attempting its sequel, which is titled SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER RETURNS. Now here’s the latest on this film.

Though Randeep Hooda’s character in the first part was shown as dead, the actor will be an integral part of the sequel. Also, besides Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill, SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER RETURNS will have an additional lead actor and actress enacting pivotal roles. “We are in the process of finalizing the names,” Tigmanshu says. The scripting of the film is underway and is expected to begin filming in February next year.

You saw him play the unsuspecting young lover in Dibakar Bannerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD). And now, Anshuman Jha is all set to essay the character of the main villain in Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat starrer Kismat Love Paisa Dilli (KLPD). The film, is a sequel to Abhay Deol’s Ek Chalis Ki Last Local.

When contacted, Anshuman told Mumbai Mirror, “My character is very surreal and a first in Bollywood. Its beauty lies in the writing. I play an innocent-faced devil whose character changes drastically from the first to the second half of the film. I cannot reveal my character’s name. I was a kid when I used to watch Vivek’s films and today, I have a good opportunity to work with him. I’ll try my best to entertain with KLPD. I am really excited.”

After LSD, Anshuman’s next film is going to be Boys Toh Boys Hai, where he plays a sardar.

Actor Farhan Akhtar Reflects About His Most Difficult Movie Scene

Actor Farhan Akhtar Reflects About His Most Difficult Movie Scene

The scene that I shot with Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah) Sir in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was one of the toughest for me. I was finally meeting my birth father in the film. The film was about three guys having fun on a road trip and suddenly there came a point where I had to shoot this emotional scene. Throughout the film, my character Imran is this one chilled out guy who never takes life seriously. And then in this scene I had to interact with my father...there was disappointment, anger and to an extent even love.

All these emotions had to be expressed in very few words. It was all fine when Kabir and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol) were in the scene. The real challenge was facing Naseer Sir alone. But then, Naseer Sir is such a fine actor, it automatically helps the other person perform better.

This was the only scene in the entire film that was so intense. It was shot in Spain. This scene was one of those that take you to a different emotional plane rather than being just an emotional scene. The scene saw the other part of Imran. Luckily, we did not need too many retakes. Thanks to Naseerji.

Actress Katrina Kaif is the Person Most Searched in India

Like every year, this year too Google Zeitgeist has announced the results of the Most Searched People, Topics, Movies of the year 2011.

The Google Zeitgeist 2011 for India throws up quite a few interesting results. The person topping the list of Most Searched People is none other than Katrina Kaif who believe it or not has even beaten the likes of Anna Hazare who created a nationwide revolution this year. This indeed shows that India is a Bollywood crazy nation.

While Katrina topped the list, her one time beau Salman Khan was not far behind either and came in at No.3 in the list of Most Searched People. Surprisingly, Salman is the only male actor to feature in the list of Top 10 Most Searched People in India. Despite the whole Ra.One frenzy, SRK doesn’t make it to the list of Top 10 Most Searched People in India for the year 2011.

Starlet Poonam Pandey, who shot to fame for promising to strip for the Indian cricket team, is ranked at No. 4 ahead of actors like Aishwarya Rai (No. 6), Kareena Kapoor (No.  8 ) and Priyanka Chopra (No. 10)
The Google Zeitgeist 2011 for Most Searched Movies in India too reveals some interesting stats. Needless to say, its Salman Khan starrer Bodyguard which tops the list followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious venture Ra.One.

JO HUM CHAHEIN Movie Review

JO HUM CHAHEIN Movie Review

Love stories are the most tried and tested genre in Bollywood. Youthful stories in particular are eagerly lapped up if the romance quotient is just right, the lead pair is charming, the songs are tuneful and easy on the lips and the sweet and tender moments stay fresh in your memory even after you’ve made an exit from the cineplex. The process of falling in love changes in film after film, but what remains intact — at least in Hindi movies — is the joy and elation when the lovers unite in the finale.

First-time director Pawan Gill attempts to tell a love story that deals with the problems and struggles of a Gen X couple. Though it’s easy to decipher what course the journey would take, you can’t help but acknowledge the fact that Pawan at least makes a sincere attempt to tell a story that’s breezy and pacy, with an interesting twist midway through the film. Well shot with several interesting moments, it’s a film that the urban youth should identify with instantly.

But there’s a flipside as well. And that pertains to its screenplay. More on that later!
JO HUM CHAHEIN is a coming of age story of Rohan [Sunny Gill] and Neha [Simran Mundi], two young, hip, effervescent individuals whose lives change forever once they meet and fall in love. Rohan is a brash, cocky, ambitious, 24-year-old MBA graduate who wants instant success and will do anything to make that come true.

Rohan moves to Mumbai to pursue a career as a stockbroker where he meets Neha, a no-nonsense, strong-headed girl, who’s come to Mumbai to follow her dreams, the dream of becoming a film actor. Neha is someone who believes in love, but hasn’t given any guy a chance because no one measures up to her standards of Mr. Right. That’s until Rohan comes along and her life changes completely.

Both of them have different wants, desires and quests, but they manage to come together and go on a journey that intertwines their personal and professional lives.

Director Pawan Gill, who has also penned its script, chooses to narrate a story that not only focuses on romance, but also on the aspirations of the youth and how far can they go to accomplish their goals. In doing so, Pawan doesn’t take the tried and tested route to narrate his tale. The love story isn’t the type that would make you exclaim, ‘Not again’. But the entire stock market perspective is what could’ve been lucidly elucidated for the average moviegoer to decipher. Sure, the character of Alyy Khan does make things clear at the outset, but during the course of the journey, there could’ve been more clarity on the issue. Case in point, what eventually goes wrong in Sunny’s career, how Alyy uses him and how Alyy pays for it eventually could’ve been better explained.

However, despite the blemishes, there’s no denying that Pawan has handled a couple of poignant moments well. The twist in the tale and the confrontation between the lead pair in the middle of the film is super. Also, the transformation in Sunny’s character — how he gradually realizes the importance of a relationship — is prudently dealt with.

A love story is ‘incomplete’ without melodious music and the songs in JO HUM CHAHEIN have the required vigor to entice the youth. Sachin Gupta delivers some lovely compositions, which includes tracks such as ‘Ishq Hothon Se’, ‘Peepni’ and ‘Aaj Bhi Party’. The songs are well choreographed and the icing on the cake is the visual appeal in each track. Talking of visual appeal, the review would be incomplete without acknowledging the contribution by the DoP, Manush Nandan. The film has eye-catching visuals and even otherwise, it’s an incredibly stylish looking film. The production design [Amrita Mahal Nakai and Sabrina Singh] is top notch.

Sunny Gill renders his character with tremendous sincerity. It’s a character, like I pointed out earlier, that’s bona fide and identifiable and Sunny’s performance makes it all the more relatable. Simran Mundi is photogenic and has the potential to grow into a fine actor. She’s a tad self-conscious initially, but illustrates potency in heartrending moments consequently. Alyy Khan is first-rate, while Achint Kaur carries her part with flourish. Yuri Suri, as Sunny’s father, makes his presence felt. Samar Virmani, Sunny’s friend, is self-assured and handles his part well, while Mansi Multani does a fine job. Rithvik Dhanjani is confident.
On the whole, JO HUM CHAHEIN is a decent watch that will require a strong word of mouth to leave a mark.

PAPPU CANT DANCE SAALA Movie Review

PAPPU CANT DANCE SAALA Movie Review

Rom-coms with middle class setting instantly take you back to the days when Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee specialized in such themes. And Saurabh Shukla’s new directorial venture PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA walks the same path. It seems like an extension of what we witnessed in the 70s and 80s. But before you assume that the film is a musical or about a simpleton who *can’t* dance, nope, it’s not.

Saurabh Shukla has the track record of making films that have interesting concepts and the same can be said of PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA. This time, the talented actor/director narrates the story of a small town guy adjusting to the lifestyle in a metropolis. Also, Shukla integrates the odd couple track in the plot to make it more authentic. Before you exclaim, haven’t we seen it all in the past, haven’t we watched the usual nit-picking between a bindaas girl and a shy small town boy, the transition from being mere acquaintances to caring for each other couple, the diametrically opposite couple pining to be soul mates, let me say, yes, it packs all of the above, but Shukla also packs the narrative with subtle humor and slice of life episodes to tell a story.

So does it work? In parts, yes. But, in the end, PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA remains an ordinary watch!

PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA is about two people from different worlds. Vidyadhar [Vinay Pathak] has just shifted from Banaras to Mumbai. A man with old world values who finds it difficult to adjust in the city… Mehak [Neha Dhupia] is a dancer in Bollywood. She has learned the tricks of surviving in this fast-paced city. She is loud and jazzy… They’re neighbors who, due to certain circumstances, somehow get stuck in the same flat… and thus begins their story!

PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA is unlike a Saurabh Shukla film. This time, to quote him, he’s gone ‘commercial’, aiming for the mass audience. PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA shows promise at the start; the character of Vinay Pathak specifically seems straight out of life. Though Vinay has been cast in a similar mould in the past, the actor brings that variation in his character that makes the goings-on watchable. Also, the sequences when Vinay and Neha clash — first, when Neha organizes a party at her flat and next, when they meet the members of the Society to voice their grievances — are truly enjoyable.

But PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA slips in its post-interval portions. The promise that it showed initially dries up in this hour. The goings-on, to put it bluntly, aren’t bland, but get into the been-there-seen-that pattern. And one isn’t too excited to know how the lovers would unite in the end for this reason. More so because the romance is so subtle that you actually wonder if it’s true love or just strong feelings for each other, which could also be construed as unadorned camaraderie or unembellished affection. To cut a long story short, the screenplay could’ve been more engrossing in this hour.

Like I pointed out earlier, Saurabh Shukla has filmed a couple of sequences proficiently, but he’s saddled with a middling script. The music [Malhar] is functional, but the one filmed on Neha [the video track] is bouncy. Fuwad Khan’s cinematography is fair.

Vinay Pathak breathes his character, conferring it the dignity it warrants. Neha Dhupia catches you with complete surprise. She’s the scene stealer actually, who handles the dramatic moments as well as the livewire ones with flourish. Rajat Kapoor has not been used befitting his caliber. Brijendra Kala does well in a succinct part. Sanjay Mishra is serviceable. Naseeruddin Shah sparkles in a cameo.

On the whole, PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA is, at best, a regular fare. It could’ve been far more appealing and engaging had it not fallen prey to mediocrity in its second hour.

Missing Actress Veena Malik Found Safe and Sound in Mumbai Hotel

Controversial Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who had gone ‘missing’ from Friday morning while shooting for a film in Goregaon here, has been found at a hotel in Juhu in suburban Mumbai. “Veena Malik is in Oakwood hotel. She has registered in the hotel by her real name Zahida and she has all the papers. She was unwell for a couple of days,” Machendra Bodke of Juhu police station told media persons.

The actor’s manager Prateik Mehta had claimed that she had gone missing since Friday morning when she was shooting for the film. He had said that he had been trying to contact her ever since then but her phone is switched off.

The actress, who has been in and out of India for film and reality shows, was shooting Mumbai 125 kilometres in Goregaon and left the shoot midway, saying she was not well.

Sisters Kareena and Karisma Kapoor Upcoming Clash in the Summer of 2012?

Sisters Kareena and Karisma Kapoor Upcoming Clash in the Summer of 2012?

Aah, now how much do we love clash between the biggies when it comes to box office battles! However, this one could well turn out to be a clash of the decade if this indeed happens. Though one has seen two mega stars bringing their biggies opposite each others and sometimes even friends forced to arrive on the same date due to professional reasons, this would be for the first time ever that two siblings would clash with each other. They are none other than Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor whose Talaash and Dangerous Ishq respectively are aiming for arrival in June next year.

“Yes, this is strange, unfortunate, but true”, says an insider, “It would be a precarious situation for Bollywood if this clash indeed happens and that too over the same weekend. Talaash has been confirmed for 1st June release while Dangerous Ishq too has announced its arrival in the same month. Though it is yet to close on a date, it still risks an arrival which would be way too close for comfort. This clash has to be avoided by all means.”

The worry doesn’t come without a strong reason. After all, Rowdy Rathore has already been confirmed for 15th June and neither would the film budge from its spot nor would Dangerous Ishq think of releasing alongside a film that has names like Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Prabhu Deva involved. The very next week arrives Teri Meri Kahani and that one is a biggie too with Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead. The week to follow is open and as long as Dangerous Ishq is willing to contend with a one week open run, it should be fine since all eyes would be on Bol Bachchan which arrives next.

“Really, there are too many calculations at play and there has to be good thought given to the arrival of Dangerous Ishq. Kareena won’t have to worry for her film since Talaash being an Aamir Khan starrer won’t change its plans. It would be Karisma who would have to play smart and while it is out of question that she would clash with her younger sister, an arrival on the very next week is ruled out as well. With the kind of packed schedule that June is anyways carrying, it is all the more surprising that the makers even thought of coming in the same month. They would have to wait”, says a trade expert.

While both sisters too would want to stay away from each other by all means as none would wish to jeopardise each other’s plans, there could well be a situation when the makers use this very scenario as a good enough promotional tool that would help their film. As for Kareena, she is pretty much waiting for her sister’s comeback with a bated breath. She says, “I am sure she would recreate the magic she has always been famous for whenever she appears on screen again.”

Hope that happens a few weeks before or after you have weaved your magic Bebo.

Triple Role for Anupam Kher In the Remake of Chashme Buddoor

Triple Role for Anupam Kher In the Remake of Chashme Buddoor

It is the season of plenty for the Chashme Buddoor remake in Goa. Ever since David mentioned that he was searching for an alternative title for Chashme Buddoor, suggestions on twitter and other public forums have been pouring in.

Says the director, “The titles being suggested are incredible. From Buree Nazar Waala Tera Mooh Lal to Khatte Angoor to Nazarbattu…I’m very confused.

And now with Sai Paranjpye’s Chashme Buddoor undergoing a complete image revamp, Anupam Kher who was signed to play a key comic role in Dhawan’s film, has a triple role.

Says David, “Anupam’s character is completely new to my Chashme Buddoor. He plays three brothers named Suryakant, Chandrakant and Prabhakant.”

The idea of turning Kher’s role into a triple role apparently materialized when the unit descended on Goa. According to a source, Anupam was meant to be a character who keeps showing up everywhere at the most inopportune time. Everyone in the team thought it would make more sense to have three of Anupam around.
Says David, “See, Anupam has done so much work, so many films and such varied characters. We’ve to find ways of re-inventing him for the audience. We’re having a ball shooting with three Anupams. He plays an army officer, a police officer and a civilian. The three brothers keep fighting all the time, one claiming he’s one minute older than the other, and so forth.”

Adds Anupam, “I always have a ball shooting with David. I’ve just returned from the US after shooting with David Russell for The Silver Lining Playboys. Now I’m shooting with another David in Goa. No two films and directors can be more dissimilar.”

Robert DeNiro To Visit Anupam Kher In Mumbai Next Year

Tom cruised through India. And now, it’s his colleague from Hollywood, Robert De Niro’s turn to grace the subcontinent. However, this time around, Anil Kapoor will not be playing host to the Hollywood A-lister. Anupam Kher will take over the job instead.

De Niro will reportedly visit Mumbai early next year, primarily to visit Kher’s acting institute and instruct the students there.

Anupam Kher, not willing to reveal too much about the Hollywood star’s visit, said, “All I can say at the moment is that De Niro has promised to be in India soon.”

Kher, who shared screen space with De Niro in David Russel’s The Silver Linings Playboy, revealed how the Hollywood star after the very first shot of the two of them together, called Kher ‘terrific’.

“It was an incredible high. But my biggest challenge was to speak normal unaccented American English so that my speaking voice didn’t stick out like a sore thumb alongside De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Julia Stiles and Chris Tucker.”

Actress Kangna Ranaut To Perform a Double Role in Manu 2?

Actress Kangna Ranaut To Perform a Bouble Role in Manu 2?

Actress Kangna Ranaut To Perform a Double Role in Manu 2?

It’s a big deal for B-Town actresses to be in a double role, given that, they barely have anything to do in a normal commercial Hindi film. No wonder Kangna Ranaut is rejoicing, for in the sequel of Tanu Weds Manu, she will be seen in a double role. Says a trade source, “Bollywood has often seen male actors play double roles. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Govinda have pulled off double roles with aplomb. Fewer heroines, though, have been given this honour.”
When you talk of women in double roles, Sridevi in Chaalbaaz, Madhuri in Sangeet, Kajol in Dushman and Kuch Khatti, Kuch Meethi, Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om as well as Chandni Chowk To China and Priyanka Chopra in What’s Your Rashee come to mind immediately. Joining them now, will be Kangna.

Kangna confesses, “I can’t give out much on the story, but yes, I am playing a double role in the TWM sequel. It is going to be a bigger and better film; I’m really excited!” There’s a lot more to be excited about. She has been shooting for Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish 3 that went on the floors earlier this month. The curly-haired actress plays a super-girl in the film. Almost breathless with excitement, she gushes, “Krrish-3 has taken all my time, my life and energy.”

This year has been a fantastic year for this young, thinking actress. She had multiple releases including the hits Tanu Weds Manu and Double Dhamaal. She has replaced Vidya Balan in Dedh Ishqiya. Her name also figures on the wish list of reputed filmmakers like Vishal Bhardwaj and Ekta Kapoor. However, her crowning glory at this juncture is that she has a double role in the TWM sequel. Director Aanand Rai feels that Kangs was the backbone of the original and is happy that the script makes place for “two of her” in the sequel.

Reiterating Bollywood’s faith in the fiery actress’ ability, trade guru Taran Adarsh says, “Kangna has always managed to surprise her audience with her diversity. She took up challenges early in her acting career. 2011 has been telling because she shed that neurotic image she had cultivated with Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Fashion, and proved that she can be versatile.’’

“Kangna’s among the few current actresses who has the versatility to pull off a double role. Her spirited performance was the best thing about Tanu Weds Manu and it’ll be interesting to see how she creates two entirely different characters for the sequel,” says leading film critic Rajeev Masand.
