Akshay Kumar Participates In Special Kids Event In Ahmedabad

Gujarat’s chief minister Narendra Modi, on Monday evening, flagged off an Olympic-like event in Ahmedabad with over 20 lakh kids from different age groups and states participating in various sporting events.

Actor Akshay Kumar, along with a bunch of differently-abled kids from the NGO he supports, were invited to participate in all the competition categories alongside regular kids of the same age groups.

“I’m glad this event has sent out a great message to the entire society -don’t differentiate between kids. All of them under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan have the right to study, play and grow up in the same environment, attend the same schools and colleges. For some reason there is a huge divide, which can be blurred with events like this one,“ beams Akshay, adding, “It was so overwhelming to see my kids participate in the same sports events and appear on a common platform with other kids without feeling any sense of division based on one’s physical aspects.

The actor, who has just completed his marathon promotions for Desi Boyz, and will be off to Bangkok tonight to join the rest of the cast of Housefull 2 for the film’s last schedule, says it didn’t take him too long to agree to attend the event. “Thanks to my father, who also had a strong sports background, I have developed an affinity for all kinds of sporting events, whether it’s martial arts, sprinting, boxing or kushti (traditional wrestling).
And if I’m getting a chance to place special children alongside the normal ones and boost their confidence, I’m not a fool to drop it,“ he states.

Akshay also spoke to the politico to make martial arts compulsory for school kids in his state.
“Modiji has assured me that he will make efforts for it,“ he smiles. “And I’m sure he will do it because he seemed very kicked about the idea of incorporating martial arts with basic education. I’ve been speaking to authorities in various states, but this is one of the first ones where I’ve returned with something more concrete than the others.“

The Dirty Picture Movie Review

The Dirty Picture Movie Review

The Dirty Picture Movie Review

Intermittently, real life is far more appealing and compelling than fiction. And a biopic — which attempts to recount a person’s life story or at least the most historically momentous years of his/her life — is most demanding for not just the storyteller/s, but also the actors who bracket together with those films. Occasionally, a dash of some imaginary anecdotes are incorporated in biopics, since the moviegoer seeks some diversion and entertainment in a movie, besides enlightenment.

Having said that I’d like to add that it’s easier to take a recognizable route, to opt for the tried and tested, but it’s frightfully difficult to be diverse. Producers Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor are known for accepting challenges and backing films like LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA, RAGINI MMS and SHOR IN THE CITY and along with director Milan Luthria and writer Rajat Aroraa had successfully recreated the bygone era with flourish in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. Now THE DIRTY PICTURE fires all powerful bullets to stir your mind’s eye.

The general feeling is, THE DIRTY PICTURE is a biopic on the life and times of Silk Smitha, a sought-after actress of the 80s. I personally feel that THE DIRTY PICTURE draws inspiration from the struggling female actors in the 80s, whose insurmountable and indomitable spirit made them emerge triumphant and create a distinctive space for themselves in the male-dominated industry. It’s a recreation of an era, with the makers seeking motivation from a lot of characters to create this one woman.

Let me clear this at the very outset. THE DIRTY PICTURE not only draws attention to the life of a sex goddess, but also makes us responsive of the catastrophe behind the facade. Silk — the principal character in THE DIRTY PICTURE — provides titillation to millions of viewers, but dies a forlorn and heartbreaking death. She battles fame, fortune and alcohol. Brave, daring and provocative, THE DIRTY PICTURE doesn’t cross the line into impropriety and offensiveness.

Envisage a junior artist who became the most sought after female protagonist of the early 80s. Chronicling the meteoric rise and steep fall of a screen sensation, THE DIRTY PICTURE is set against the colorful and entertaining setting of the South film industry of the 80s.

The quintessential siren, Silk, knew her spectators and it didn’t seem like anything would stop the intensely motivated starlet, till it did, in the shape of unrequited love. To the world, she was the queen of sensuality. But, at heart, Silk was just another woman craving for true love. An unfortunate encounter with deceit and infidelity led to dire consequences!

First things first! Milan Luthria is brave and intelligent. Brave, because Milan steps out of the comfort zone to narrate the tragic story of an actress. Intelligent, because THE DIRTY PICTURE does not develop into a dry and depressing fare at any juncture. This one stresses on — as Vidya puts it — entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. Well narrated and wonderfully executed, THE DIRTY PICTURE is sure to strike a chord with the avid moviegoer. I’d like to give brownie points to Rajat Aroraa’s dynamic script and razor-sharp dialogue. The riveting screenplay and power-packed dialogue will remain etched in our memory for a long, long time, eliciting a similar response like ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. The writing holds the spectators’ interest and doesn’t let you digress from the screen, except for a few minutes in the post-interval portions. The portions between Emraan and Vidya slows the narrative, though, I’d like to add, it picks up dramatically when Vidya gets conned by a maker of porn movies. The sequences thereafter, right till the finale, take the film to the crescendo again. THE DIRTY PICTURE is embellished with several powerful sequences. Note the sequence when Vidya convinces/seduces Naseeruddin Shah, after he refuses to work with her. It’s remarkable. Also, the first encounter with Emraan Hashmi. Noteworthy! Much later, the volatile sequence at the awards ceremony [the intermission point] is amongst the highpoints of the enterprise. The second hour has its share of super moments as well. The one featuring Vidya outside Anju Mahendroo’s mansion is super. Vidya’s interaction with the two women [individual sequences, both] — with Naseer’s wife first and Shakila, the dancer, next — packs a solid punch. Vidya’s interaction with the maker of porn movies is another shocking twist. The finale, of course, moves you no end.

Vishal-Shekhar deliver a good soundtrack. ‘Ooo La La’ is easily the song of the year [rendered brilliantly by Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal], while ‘Ishq Sufiyana’ has long legs too. Another striking track is ‘Honeymoon Ki Raat’. The choreography of these tracks [Pony Prakash Raj], especially ‘Ooh La La’, is straight out of the 80s. Bobby Singh’s cinematography is magnificent.

Vidya’s sizzling show and dare-bare act is sure to seize the viewers by complete astonishment. It’s a novel casting because it is nothing like what Vidya has done before and is completely diverse to her image. But let’s give Vidya the due: She delivers an astounding performance, pushing the envelope yet again. It wouldn’t be erroneous to state that Vidya will walk away with the awards for the sterling act in this film. Besides, she carries off the hot attire without making her character look vulgar or tasteless. In fact, Milan and costume designer Niharika Bhasin Khan have ensured that the sexy-looking persona is aesthetically depicted. Vidya had put on oodles of weight to get the look of the character right and the flabby body only adds a lot of authenticity to the character she depicts on the big screen.

Naseeruddin Shah, who has been cast as an ageing South Indian superstar, sports wigs, dark glasses and painted moustache, reminding people of the stars of that era. He plays to the gallery, provoking claps, laughs and whistles, thus pulling off the role with élan. One has to credit Emraan Hashmi for willing to take on bold, aggressive characters. I actually wondered what prompted the actor to share screen space with Vidya, who has a meatier role and enacts the central character, but he walks his own path throughout the film. He plays the headstrong, hot-blooded, rebellious director to the hilt. Tusshar is wonderfully restrained in a significant role. His sequences with Naseer and Vidya, both are truly fantastic.

Anju Mahendru is first-rate, reminding people of a real-life lady journo, who was hugely popular for her writings in the 80s. Rajesh Sharma, the film-maker who ‘discovers’ Silk, is outstanding. An actor to watch out for! Shivani Tanskale, enacting the role of Naseeruddin Shah’s wife, is perfect. Mangal Kenkre [as Ratnamma] and Imran Hasnee are adequate.

On the whole, THE DIRTY PICTURE banks heavily on shock-value, sex-value and most importantly, script-value. It’s an exceptional portrayal of an ordinary person’s rise from scratch to extraordinary heights and her subsequent fall. Without doubt, it is one of the most comprehensive scripts to come out of the Hindi film industry in 2011. A film with a universal theme and terrific mass connect, it has remarkable potential to set the cash registers ringing for one more valid reason — entertainment, entertainment and entertainment.

Arjun Rampal Celebrates Birthday On Heroine Set

Arjun Rampal Celebrates Birthday On Heroine Set

Arjun Rampal Celebrates Birthday On Heroine Set

Arjun Rampal who turned a year older on 26/11 isn’t quite sure whether director Madhur Bhandarkar planned it. But when he reached the set for the first day of shooting for Heroine, Arjun was told that it’s his character’s birthday and that he would be doing a cake-cutting sequence with his co-star Kareena Kapoor.

According to a source, Arjun plays an on-the-rise actor who latches on to the top actress of the day. Any resemblance to the equation that Dharmendra shared with Meena Kumari when they did films like Phool Aur Patthar, Kajal, Purnima, Bharaon Ki Manzil Chandan Ka Palna and Majhli Didi together is purely coincidental.

The birthday sequence that Bhandarkar shot for Arjun’s character fell on Arjun’s birthday. Filmy folklore has it that Meena Kumari celebrated Dharmendra’s birthday on the sets of one of their films together and even insisted that they incorporate the celebration in the film that they were shooting together.

Laughed Arjun, “I don’t know if Madhur planned it that way. But we ended up shooting my character’s birthday cake-cutting scene on my birthday on Saturday. Normally you’ve a star cutting a cake on his birthday on the sets. But doing it on camera in character is, I think slightly unusual.”

Arjun is all praise for his Heroine co-star Kareena.

“She looked stunning on the shooting today,” the actor said appreciatively as he headed home for a birthday party after the first day’s shooting of Bhandarkar’s film.

Said Arjun, “Nothing major. Just a small get-together for close friends. The past year has been pretty eventful. I hope the coming year too remains the same way.”

Recently, Arjun turned a TV host for a show called Love 2 Hate U where we hear, he is trying to convince his close friends from the film industry including Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan to come face-to-face with the one ‘fan’ who purports to hate them the most.

Apparently, the three super-celebrities have expressed misgivings to Arjun about confronting their pet hate.
Says Arjun, “I am sure they all would agree to come on my show. I recorded an episode with Farah Khan and Farhan Akhtar recently. By the end of the show, their supposed haters ended up loving their objects of proclaimed detestation.”

Arjun warns he won’t be taking the Bollywood route alone on his show. “I want to invite cricketers, politicians and celebrities from every walk of life. When I wrap up my season of the show, I want to feel I’ve done something beyond just an ordinary chat show.”

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan Are The Famous Couple Of Bollywood

They are called the Brangelina of Bollywood; like the Hollywood glamour couple, you’d think Saif and Kareena might never really zero in on a date for their marriage. Speculations have been rife about Bebo tying the knot with Saifu ever since they made their relationship official at a fashion event in 2007.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan Are The Famous Couple Of Bollywood

The media even secretly married them off several times in the past two years. A headline screamed, “Saif-Kareena’s secret nikaah!” However, now finally the Kapoor gal and the Khan boy have decided to solemnise their love on paper and declare it to the world.
“We are getting married in Feb or March,” Saif was quoted as saying, last month. The two, who have remained committed to each other since four years, have maintained that marriage would not change much. Says Kareena, “Even now we go on holidays and try and take out as much time as possible for each other.
So this way, I hope I get more time to spend with Saif. Nothing else would change. We both are neck deep in work and it would be the same even post marriage.”

While Rajini's Star Rana is in Limbo, Deepika Proceeds With Newer Films

While Rajini's Star Rana is in Limbo, Deepika Proceeds With Newer Films

Even as speculations don't seem to be subside, what with rumour catching on heat that Rajinikanth starrer Rana has been shelved, the film's other cast member stay on to be clueless about the film's fate. Deepika Padukone, one of the leading ladies of the film, is going through the same predicament as she has started shooting for many of her upcoming films. However Rana doesn't figure anywhere in her agenda.

"Ever since Rajinikanth's health scare early this year resulted in the shooting of Rana being aborted, there has been constant speculation on the film's fate. While earlier there were talks of the film being resumed in August, none of it really happened. Post that every passing month comes with the hope of Rana coming back on floors but the fact is that the film is pretty much on a backburner", informs a source.

From Bollywood, the film sees Deepika Padukone and Sonu Sood as the two imports for this mega film that requires Rajinikanth to be in a great shape physically. However, since the superstar is still recovering, many around him have suggested that he begin work on some other film which isn't as intense as Rana.

"Yes, of late there have been talks of Rajini Sir doing another film. Since makers haven't asked for Deepika's dates either, it is more or less certain that even if Rana hasn't been shelved, it won't resume soon", the source confirms.

Resultantly, Deepika has already moved on to other projects. While she went all out for the promotional shoot of Desi Boyz by lending the film the required dates, she is also gearing up to begin work on Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Ranbir Kapoor. The young woman, who has earlier shot for a song from the film, further confirms that Rana doesn't feature in her radar for near future at the least.

"Honestly, even I haven't heard from the makers of Rana about the future plans", admits Deepika, "Last I heard was about Rajini Sir recovering and resting but that's about it. Even I am waiting to know about the future plans for the film. Having said that, there are no dates of mine that have been blocked for future. Let's see how it goes from here."

Well, here is hoping that Deepika hasn't just lost an opportunity of a lifetime to feature with someone as big a superstar as Rajni!

Siddique, Director of the Film Bodyguard, Signs His Next Film

Siddique, the director of one of Bollywood's most successful films Bodyguard, has signed his next film. Siddique will direct a film for producers Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj. A lot of proposals came his way post the huge success of the Salman Khan starrer, but he chose to direct a film for Shyam and Narendra Bajaj.

Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj had produced Salman Khan starrer Love and are very close to the actor. Apparently, last year when Bodyguard was being shot, Bajaj who was looking for a good director asked Salman Khan about Siddique, who was directing the actor then. Salman had all good things to say about Siddique even before the release of the film. Shyam Bajaj confirmed, "Yes, I asked Salman about Siddique and since he was happy the way Bodyguard was shaping up he told me I should work with him."

Post the huge success of Bodyguard, Siddique had offers from almost every banner possible but since this was a commitment made even before the release of Bodyguard, he kept his word and told all the producers that he will first fulfill his prior commitment of making the film with Shyam Bajaj and then may consider other offers. Siddique said "It was nice of Salman to recommend me to Shyam and Narendra Bajaj, I immediately agreed. I also had to keep my word and I am happy that I will be directing a film for them. There is no doubt that it will be a commercial entertainer."

The cast of the film is yet to be decided.

Desi Boyz Movie Review

Desi Boyz Movie Review
Desi Boyz Movie Review
After regaling and entertaining moviegoers with GARAM MASALA six years ago, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham reunite in DESI BOYZ. Helmed by first-timer Rohit Dhawan, son of the badshaah of entertainers David Dhawan, this one goes a step further. Serious issues such as recession, unemployment and economic crisis have been integrated into the plotline, which compels the boyz, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, to choose an alternate job — join a male escort agency run by Sanjay Dutt.

Male strippers, gigolos and male escorts aren’t new for Bollywood. A few years ago, Deepak Tijori made a full-fledged film on youngsters taking to the profession with OOPS!. Of course, DESI BOYZ is not entirely on male strippers or escorts; there’s more to the film actually.

DESI BOYZ has a bit of THE FULL MONTY and a bit of DEUCE BIGALOW: MALE GIGOLO. First things first! Is the moviegoer of today ready for a film that depicts the protagonists taking to this undesirable profession to make ends meet? Well, these things are common place in reality, so approval shouldn’t be an issue. The tastes have evolved and Rohit Dhawan ensures that the subject matter is treated prudently, paying enough heed to not impairing the sensibilities of the conventional viewers.

Come to think of it, DESI BOYZ is a lot of fun as the male protagonists take to pleasing their female clientele. The first hour, frankly, is akin to a roller coaster ride with lots of fascinating developments unfolding at a feverish pace. The best part is that a tinge of realism [economic crisis] has been injected to the plot, which makes the motives appear convincing on screen. In fact, it’s pretty evident that this is not a no-brainer rom-com. But it’s the second half that does a complete somersault.

Desi Boyz Movie Review

Let me explain. Watching the second hour of DESI BOYZ is akin to watching an entirely different film. The problem clearly lies in the fact that the screenplay doesn’t hold and it tries to balance drama and fun, but with not much success. Akshay’s story in the University isn’t plausible, while John attempting to woo back Deepika lacks muscle. The courtroom sequence, with Akshay fighting to seek custody of his adorable nephew, is bizarre, while the finale is not compelling at all. In short, the second hour is a complete downer, diluting the impact generated by the first hour.

The year is 2009. The world has been struck by the financial meltdown. But Nick Mathur [John Abraham] and Jerry Patel [Akshay Kumar] don’t feel a thing in their comfortable pad in London. Nick feels smug with his successful investment banking job, the new bonus in his pocket and the beautiful Radhika [Deepika Padukone] by his side, while Jerry is used to living off his best buddy Nick. But life has a way of pulling the rug from under our feet.

Nick and Jerry stop smiling the day Nick’s company decides to downsize and unceremoniously fires him. And Jerry is informed by the Social Services that his nephew Veer, whose local guardian Jerry is, will be placed in a foster home unless he gets a steady job. DESI BOYZ is the story of two men who are forced to do something extremely bizarre which gives them instant gratification, but the repercussions tear them apart.
DESI BOYZ is unlike the atypical Akshay starrers that we have witnessed in the recent past. But Rohit Dhawan, who is also credited for the written material, ought to have ensured that the post-interval portions are equally riveting and absorbing. However, a few moments in the second half are well executed, but it’s not like the first half. A film of this nature ought to entertain and the comic scenes ought to have the power to make you laugh, which is clearly lacking here.

Milap Zaveri’s lines are witty and sharp. Natrajan Subramaniam’s cinematography is eye-filling. The production design is top notch. Pritam’s music compliments the mood of the film. The choreography is striking.

Akshay has transformed into an actor who can handle comic scenes proficiently and DESI BOYZ is proof enough that he has indeed come a long way. Like always, he pitches in an earnest performance, making you notice the loads of effort he puts into his roles. John is a revelation in a role that demands him to look dashing as well as carry off the light scenes effortlessly. The role required a star with a debonair persona and charisma to match Akshay and John seems the most apt choice. The camaraderie between Akshay and John is piping hot.

Deepika continues to evolve as an actor and proves her mettle yet again. Chitrangda, who has been seen in middle of the road cinema/offbeat films so far, enters the plot much later [in the second half] and though she looks stunning and acts well, her character isn’t convincing. Sanjay Dutt is winsome in a cameo. Anupam Kher is wasted. Omi Vaidya provides good laughs. The child actor is really cute. Mohnish Bahl is just about okay.

On the whole, DESI BOYZ has an entertaining first half and decent performances as its plusses, but a tedious and least compelling second hour stands out like a sore thumb. Leaves a lot to be desired!

Uday Chopra Announced the Formation of New Production Company

Uday Chopra has announced the formation of YRF Entertainment, a Hollywood-based production and financing company focused on developing and producing feature films for the U.S. and international marketplace. Uday Chopra will serve as CEO of YRF Entertainment and has hired Jonathan Reiman to head development and production under him.

Uday Chopra commented, “My family has a deep commitment to making and distributing quality films that entertain and enlighten audiences. I share that passion, as well as a love for American films that I have had since childhood. It is that enthusiasm and my love of the creative process of filmmaking that drove me to start this new venture.”

YRF Entertainment is currently producing and financing The Longest Week, which began shooting last week in New York City. The comedy tells the story of a bratty “man-child” (Bateman) who still lives with his parents in a chic Manhattan hotel but suddenly finds himself evicted, disinherited and hopelessly in love with his best friend’s heartthrob (Wilde).

Aamir Khan Is Going To Launch Jackie Shroff’s Son Tiger

Aamir Khan Is Going To Launch Jackie Shroff’s Son Tiger

Aamir Khan Is Going To Launch Jackie Shroff’s Son Tiger

Did Aamir Khan meet Jackie Shroff in Mahabaleshwar last week to finalize plans to launch Jackie’s son Tiger?
Jackie doesn’t deny that Aamir has shown an interest in launching Tiger. But he says the meeting in Mahabaleshwar was not professional. “Aamir and I have known one another for years. We’re fond of one another. I was shooting for Ananth Mahadevan’s Life’s Good in Mahabaleshwar. Aamir has a home there. He dropped in to see me twice. As far as launching Tiger goes, I’d be really happy if it happens.”

It’s straight-off tug-o-war between Subhash Ghai and Aamir Khan to launch Jackie and Ayesha Shroff’s son Jai (Tiger). Both the producers have shown a keen interest in the boy. In fact Ghai’s interest goes back to Tiger’s childhood when he had made a pledge he would launch his friend and discovery Jackie’s son whenever the boy was ready to take the plunge.

But now, there is a very interesting twist in Tiger’s tale, with Bollywood’s resident maverick-producer Aamir Khan showing a keen interest in launching Tiger.

Says a source, “Jackie and Ayesha were more or less decided on their family friend Subhash Ghai launching Tiger. But then a call came from Aamir Khan’s production house stating that the boss-man wanted to meet Tiger. The boy met Aamir.”

Apparently, the meeting went off very satisfactorily, with Aamir spending a couple of hours briefing the Shroff boy on life cinema and other vagaries.

Says the source, “The meeting with Aamir was definitely fruitful. And Aamir is most interested in launching Tiger. But then what happens to family-friend Subhash Ghai’s sentimental plans of launching the Shroff boy? That’s the dilemma being faced by Jackie and Ayesha who naturally want the best launch for their son. But they don’t want to anyone to be hurt in the process.”

When asked about his son, Jackie’s voiced swelled with parental pleasure and pride. “Tiger has turned out…decent. Hasn’t he? Yes, he has met Aamir Khan. To be launched by Aamir would be a big privilege. Aamir is very fine producer, actor and human being. My boy would be in great hands. However Subhashji is also very keen. Do you know he had done Ayesha and mine kanyaadan? To unka Tiger pe haq banta hai. Let’s see…”

Reminiscing about his own launch Jackie chuckles, “Tiger has it all laid out in front of him. When I had come into the industry I had no one to guide me. If Subhashji had not given me a break I wonder what would’ve happened to me!”

Sanjay Dutt As Cameo in 'Desi Boyz'

Sanjay Dutt As Cameo in 'Desi Boyz'
Sanjay Dutt As Cameo in 'Desi Boyz'

Not many are aware that Sanjay Dutt makes an interesting cameo in DESI BOYZ. Of course, one of the trailers of the film shows a glimpse of Dutt, but the focus is on Akshay Kumar and John Abraham in the movie and rightly so. However, Rohit Dhawan, son of David Dhawan, has an interesting story to narrate about Dutt, when the first-time director approached him for the film.
It seems, Dutt, who shares a fantastic rapport with Rohit's father David and who had known Rohit ever since he was a kid, didn't think twice before accepting the small but significant part in DESI BOYZ. "He didn't want to listen to the story or what role he was supposed to play. All he said was, when do you want me to be on the sets?," Rohit divulges. Incidentally, David Dhawan's directorial debut TAAQATWAR starred Sanju [and Govinda] in the lead role, 22 years ago. Both papa Dhawan and beta Dhawan can claim to have worked with Dutt in their debut films.

David Dhawan Remaking Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Comedy Chupke Chupke

David Dhawan suddenly seems to have discovered a new formula for success. He is now into doing remakes of classic comedies. Even as he gets ready to do a remake of Sai Paranjpye's Chashme Buddoor, news comes that Dhawan would be doing his own take on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1975 comedy Chupke Chupke.
Apparently, David who has so far never worked with Abhishek Bachchan has offered the actor his father Amitabh Bachchan's role of the scatter-brained Botany professor from Chupke Chupke.
Writer-director Rumi Jaffery who has written any number of films for David Dhawan in the past has been given the job of writing the new version of Chupke Chupke.
Says Jaffery, "It's a big challenge for me. Hrishida's Chupke Chupke was written by Gulzar Saab. And now I've been given the task of writing the new adaptation of Chupke Chupke 36 years after Hrishida's film. How do I retain the flavour of the original and still make it palatable to contemporary tastes? Fortunately, after working with David on nearly 20 films we share a great comfort level. And we're both big fans of Hrishikesh Mukherjee."
Apparently, the original comedy on infidelity will be completely re-written, keeping in mind the act that the definition of infidelity has changed over the years.

Genelia-Riteish Wedding to Coincide With Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya?

Genelia-Riteish Wedding to Coincide With Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya?
Genelia-Riteish Wedding to Coincide With Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya?

As is known by one and all by now, the good news is that Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza have admitted to being a couple. And even better news is that their next release would see the two of them together as love birds. However, the best news here is the sound of wedding bells which may well be heard around the same time when their upcoming film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya releases.
"Now that the Riteish and Genelia are out in open, it makes the whole scenario all the more clear", says a source, "It is but natural that their film Tere Naa Love Ho Gaya was well planned to release around the same time when the couple was looking at getting married. To have the release of your film coincide with the most special occasion in your life comes with quite a few benefits. Above all, it acts as a good promotional peg as well."
The theory has a definite point here since a few years back even Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai announced their togetherness days before the release of Guru. This gave a huge mileage to the film and also made a definite contribution to the film's success.
"Whether a couple is together or they break up, a film generally benefits", says another industry observer, "We saw how Jab We Met suddenly came into spotlight when Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor broke up. Now that Kareena is all set to marry Saif early next year, it is more or less certain that the event would coincide with the release of their Agent Vinod. Stars always make news, more so when they are in love and come together in a film. Wedding announcement around the same time acts as a cherry on the cake."
Guess the makers of Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya understood this as well and not just a major portion of this quickie was wrapped up in record time, even the film's promotion has started months in advance with the release of their song 'Main Vaari Jaanva'. As reported earlier, it was a clear hint that Riteish and Genelia were serious about their wedding plans and the song just added as an early indication.
"Yes, Riteish has already announced that the wedding would take place early next year. Now it's a matter of time that the final date is announced soon as well. Chances are quite high that it would be around 17th February, the Valentine weekend, in which the film releases. It is going to be one lovey-dovey season for sure if the couple walks the red carpet of the film's premier that could well act as their wedding reception", quips a common friend.

Viveks' Gyrah Chalis Ki Last Metro shooting Moved To Delhi

Gyrah Chalis Ki Last Metro seems to keep getting bigger as the film now moves base to Delhi unlike the original which was shot in Mumbai. It all started with Vivek replacing Abhay and rumours of Jacqueline or Bipasha being the forefront for playing the lead opposite him. Post Sanjay Khanduri being caught capturing the metro in his camera when he had gone for a recce to Delhi , he now has got more conscious as he has asked his lead actor to pull some strings to shoot a crucial scene of the scene in Qutub Minar.

Delhi has been shown in various B-town blockbusters like Fanaa, Delhi Belly, Qurbaan but producer of Gyrah Chalis… Amit Chandrra is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to showing the actual Delhi which has never been shown before. So this time around, Amit plans to go a notch higher with shooting inside Qutub Minar and making it the first ever film to ever capture the beautiful monument.

The last Hindi film that attempted to show the inside of the Qutub Minar was Dev Anand’s Tere Ghar Ke Samne in which the song ‘Dil Ka Bhawar Kare Pukar’ was shown to be pictured inside the monument. However, in reality they could not shoot the song in the real Qutub Minar because it has a narrow staircase and it would be impossible to shoot the song with all the cameras rolling besides the actor’s movements would be restricted as well. So they had to build a “Qutub Minar like” structure on the sets and the cameras were cleverly concealed.

The makers of Gyarah Challis Ki Last Metro are going all out to acquire permissions to shoot here and are attempting to do what has never been done earlier ever. Amit Chandrra along with his actor is in talks with higher authorities in Delhi as they plan to open gates to Qutub Minar.

Actress Kangna Ranaut Admits She Is Dating UK Based Doctor

Kangna Ranaut has admitted to dating UK-based doctor Nicholas Lafferty for over a year, claiming they were introduced by Kites actress Barbara Mori’s brother Kintaro. The actress has also admitted to being in love on a chat show, adding that despite being a world apart they keep in touch through video chat. While the two haven’t been spotted publicly or even with friends, the actress maintains that this relationship is for keeps.

Recently, a celebrity magazine printed a photograph of Lafferty, provided to them by the actress. A little investigation on Kangna’s man on Facebook reveals cosy pictures of him with another girl. In fact, there are pictures of him there with everyone except he actress. That could be because she is a public figure or that they want to keep photographs private. Or perhaps, this is an open relationship because Kangna too has been linked to several co-stars in the past year. What’s strange is that they aren’t even friends on the site, given that he visits his profile regularly.

There have been reports that she spent time with Lafferty in London while shooting for Tezzz, but none of her co-stars or the crew have seen him. Strangely enough, he never visited her on the set. If she’s talking about him publicly, why won’t she meet him publicly?

A common friend denies that Kintaro introduced the supposed couple, saying, “While he knows Kangna socially, he never introduced her to anybody called Nicholas Lafferty. He’s a tad miffed that his name is being bandied about in this story. If she is seeing him, then why don’t her friends have a clue about him? This is really mysterious!” Time to bring your beau out of hiding, eh, Kangna?

ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI 2: Abhishek Bachchan Or Shahid Kapoor As Lead Role

Even though the sequel to ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI is yet to go on floors, the film has been making news ever since it was announced. While Akshay Kumar has been signed to enact the lead role, the face for the parallel lead is yet to be finalized. Initially, producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria had approached Shahid Kapoor for the role in question. Later, it was said, the makers were in talks with Abhishek Bachchan for the said role.

“Only Akshay has been signed for the project,” director Milan Luthria sets the record straight. But the makers did approach Shahid initially and Abhishek subsequently, right? “See, we will take a call [on the parallel lead] once we are through with THE DIRTY PICTURE. ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI-2 is an ambitious project and the casting has to be right. Even the female lead is yet to be confirmed,” Milan states.

Upcoming Movie Mohalla Assi by Sunny Deol is Stuck

Sunny Deol’s image makeover attempt ‘Mohalla Assi’ lies in the cans.

Sunny Deol’s attempt to break his ‘dhai kilo ka haath’ image is in trouble. The star was greatly excited to essay the role of a dhoti-clad Sanskrit teacher in Mohalla Assi.

Though the film was shot earlier in the year, it has yet to see light of day.

Says a source, “The film is stuck in the post-production stage. There have been several issues including financial that that have bogged the project.

The names associated with it have not been able to reach a consensus about its fate. As a result it lies stuck in the cans.”

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the movie is based on the Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi penned by Kashinath Singh and is about a mohalla in Varanasi on the banks of the river Ganga.

As the audience associates Sunny with his Punjabi drawl, the star had taken a keen interest to get the nuances of Sanskrit right for the dialogue.

On the sets, he had spent a lot of time reading and understanding the country’s oldest language. His co-stars in Mohalla Assi include Sakshi Tanwar, Ravi Kissen and Saurabh Shukla.

Don 2 Music Review

Don 2 Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

There are immense expectations from the music of Don 2and there are quite a few reasons for that:
- This is one of the most anticipated sequels of the current times and actually takes the story forward, hence almost warranting that good music would be the soul here
- Music of Don – The Chase Begins is still playing, courtesy ‘Aaj Ki Raat‘ which is popular despite being heard first half a decade ago
- Music coming from the house of Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani always promises a certain degree of class
- Whenever Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Javed Akhtar have come together, they have seldom failed
With such factors raising one’s expectations to a real high, nothing less than fantabulous is acceptable for the music of Don 2.

MUSIC

Shah Rukh Khan’s begins the album with a 35 second long monologue where he hints of his arrival all over again. In the current scenario, this could well be a statement from him to all his detractors (in real life as well) where he conveys the point loud and clear that he would never fade away in oblivion and it’s a matter of time that ‘he is back’.

Next to arrive is the title song which goes as ‘Zaraa Dil Ko Thaam Lo‘. This track basically picks thread from ‘Aaj Ki Raat‘ and aims at bringing back the sound of the early 80s though in a fresh new presentation with clear inspiration from James Bond flicks. Nothing wrong with that as it actually goes well with the film’s genre and it creates the kind of mood which is expected from the genre to which Don 2 belongs. While Anusha Mani begins the proceedings, it is Vishal Dadlani who arrives a little later in the day with the quartet of Raman Mahadevan, Mani Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan and Kshitij Wagh coming together for a chorus. Not the kind that you would hum around the streets, this one is basically a theme track that should take the story forward.

What catches your attention though is ‘Hai Ye Maya‘ which fuses the action genre of late 70s/early 80s well with the contemporary sound hence fully justifying it’s inclusion in Don 2. Expect the song to play at various junctures in the film as and when there is a thrilling encounter involving Shah Rukh Khan. Though in last few years Usha Uthup has come behind the mike for many a Bollywood tracks, it is ‘Hai Ye Maya‘ which turns out to be her best in ages. It is remarkable to see the lady doing exceedingly well and holding her own in the times when dozens of youngsters have come and gone. Add to this the kind of composition that Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have managed here and there is all the more reason to grab the ‘remix version’ with both ears!

Listening to ‘Dushman Mera‘ reminds of many a cabaret sequences from the 70s that had the likes of Helen, Padma Khanna or Bindu gyrating to a fast paced tune in a villain’s den. The song in question has a female protagonist hunting for her ‘dushman’ with the man of the moment having his own score to settle with his enemies. While Sunitha Sarathi is an unconventional choice as a singer here, she still does well. However what is surprising is to hear Shankar Mahadevan sounding so differently from his usual self. Also, one wonders why there wasn’t another singer roped in for the job as Shankar seems a bit out of place here.
Thankfully fun is restored soon after with ‘The King Is Back – Theme‘. A four minute long piece that takes forward the anthem of ‘Don‘ that has been popular for over three decades now, this one is an absolute killer with Sunitha Sarathi justifying her inclusion as the singer here. She has a few words to mouth though in this musical piece which acts as a wonderful background score, so much so that one can’t have enough of it despite hearing it repeatedly.

Shaan’s version of ‘Main Hoon Don‘ from Don – The Chase Begins Again is presented again in Don 2 as ‘Mujhko Pehchaanlo‘. This time around the man who has been entrusted with the responsibility of being the voice of ‘Don’ is K.K. who comes up with a full throated rendition. Surprisingly though, the zing of the original is missing here what with neither the voice nor the overall arrangements really cutting the ice. Lyrics are different this time around and though yet again it’s the call of the central protagonist for his enemies to be aware of his second coming, the thrill is missing here as well as in the ‘remix version’.

Last to arrive is ‘The ‘Don’ Waltz‘ and while it may go along well with the film’s narrative, the only exciting portion for the listener here is the point where Caralisa Monteiro brings back the theme sound of Don.

OVERALL

As mentioned at the very beginning, nothing less than a rocking album was expected from Don 2. However, what one gets to hear is a soundtrack which is pretty much a mixed bag. At places it works while at points, it just doesn’t make you jump with joy. Also, there isn’t anything which comes across as memorable enough to be played a few months down the line, leave aside a few years. Eventually what you get is a soundtrack that would go along with the narrative and acts as a good situational ingredient but that’s about it.

Ladies VS Ricky Bahl Music Review

Ladies VS Ricky Bahl Music Review
Ladies VS Ricky Bahl Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

When an exact same team of a winning film comes together for another film just a year down the line, expectations are that the outcome would be on similar lines as well, if not any more. This is exactly what one hopes from Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl too which has Yash Raj Films, Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh, Maneesh Sharma, Salim-Sulaiman and Amitabh Bhattacharya looking at recreating the magic of Band Baaja Baaraat. With the film making no pretence of being extraordinary or changing the face of entertainment, expectations are well in control as well as one looks forward to a time-pass Bollywood score here.

MUSIC

The album gets a good kick-start for itself with ‘Aadat Se Majboor‘ which has it’s beginning reminding one of Mission Impossible, albeit with a romantic-n-naughty touch to it. With an addictive hook to it that sets the groove in the very first listening, ‘Aadat Se Majboor‘ is a good theme song that also arrives in a ‘remix version’. The song not just manages to establish the feel of the movie up, close and personal, it is also entertaining enough to be played over and over again. Benny Dayal makes most of the opportunity made available to him and ensures that he has a chartbuster up its sleeves. Also a special word for Ranveer Singh who is the man of the moment for the rap portions that are an integral part of the song and can be heard prominently in the song promos that have been playing relentlessly for weeks now.

Shilpa Rao, who is mostly associated with romantic numbers, displays her boisterous side with ‘Jazba‘. On any other day, this one could well have fallen right out there in Sunidhi Chauhan’s territory. However, Salim-Sulaiman do well in bringing some variety in the proceedings by roping in Shilpa for this song which has trademark ‘Yash Raj Films’ written all over it. Carrying on from where ‘Dhunki‘ [Mere Brother Ki Dulhan] left just a few weeks ago and reminding one of the kind of music that was heard in Band Baaja Baaraat, Dil Bole Hadippaand many other films belonging to similar mood and style, ‘Jazba‘ also hints of ‘Tu Dhaari Talwar‘ [Mere Brother Ki Dulhan] at one point during it’s play. Still, the song has a spark to it that manages to ignite good enough excitement by the time one is through hearing the ‘remix version’.

Thug Le‘ which follows next is yet another song that emerges out of the template that Yash Raj Films and Salim-Sulaiman have pretty much patented over a period of time. This one is plain and simple entertainment with no one aiming at going out of the way in experimenting with the situation and the genre. Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics have that fun-n-naughty feel to them which sets the stage for Vishal Dadlani and Shweta Pandit to have fun behind the mike. Though the song won’t be remembered after the film’s run is through, it should make for an enjoyable visual experience.

It’s time to get some Punjabi mood on with ‘Jigar Da Tukda‘ which tries to create an ambience similar to that of ‘Ainnvayi Ainvayi‘ [Band Baaja Baaraat]. When compared to rest of the soundtrack, this one just about manages to pass muster partly due to a heard-before tune and partly due to it being just fine. In isolation, this Salim Merchant and Shraddha Pandit sung track may have still have been noticed due to it’s fun appeal but is one looks at what one has heard in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl so far, it turns out to be good only for a situational outing.

The album ends with ‘Fatal Attraction‘ which is a musical piece that has a Western base to it and is styled in a manner similar to that of the grand finale of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (‘Dancing Jodi‘). One looks forward to this being an out and out dance track as well with Ricky Bahl coming face to face with at least Anushka Sharma, if not all his ladies. All in all, an engaging piece that is right from the stable of Salim-Sulaiman with whom music belonging to this genre can be well expected, especially when it happens to be for a Yash Raj film.

OVERALL

Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl delivers as promised. One expected a fun outing here with no sad moments whatsoever and this is what one gets as well. Of course one just feels that presence of one additional chartbuster track could just have made it a perfect outing. However with ‘Aadat Se Majboor‘ being a hit song already and ‘Jazba‘ along with ‘Thug Le‘ promising to cover a good distance, you are reasonably satisfied with the final outcome.

Rock On Movie Sequel With Farhan Akhtar To be Release Next Year

Rock On Movie Sequel With Farhan Akhtar To be Release Next Year
Rock On Movie Sequel With Farhan Akhtar To be Release Next Year

After months of speculations, it is finally confirmed. Rock On 2, sequence to immensely popular Rock On, is definitely happening. The film is all set to go on floors next year and would be directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the man who had originally directed Rock On. Incidentally, this is the only film which Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, producers at Excel Entertainment, have finalised before announcing their newer set of films next year.

“Yes, Rock On 2 is on”, confirms a source connected to the production house, “In fact pre-production of the film is already on and Abhishek too is working on bringing this one on floors. Though he was also working on Chetan Bhagat’s The 3 Mistakes Of My Life to bring it on celluloid, it would now be Rock On 2 first. We begin shooting next year.”

Ever since Rock On (2008) turned into a good hit and started finding cult status amongst the youth, there was pressure on the makers to bring out a sequel soon. However, they had commissioned work on other films as well due to which Rock On 2 had to be put on backburner.

“Last year they had to get Karthik Calling Karthik going while this year was particularly busy with Game, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Don 2. Each of them has been a very big film for Farhan and Ritesh while Talaash too has taken over a year to be made. Now that the Aamir Khan starrer has been finalised for June next year, there are plans being finalised for other films. First to come would be Rock On 2 as there is a good emotional attachment to the subject as well. Abhishek too is all excited to begin work as he didn’t pick any other film in the last three years despite good offers coming his way”, the source continues.

Though the makers would be soon making a formal announcement around the cast, it is by default that Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli would return as the band members. There is still suspense around who would fill the shoes of Luke Kenny as the character played by him had died in the original.

When contacted, Ritesh confirmed that Rock On 2 was indeed on. “Yes, that’s the film we bring on floors next and Abhishek would be directing it. As for the rest, we need some time as it has been quite hectic for over a year now and we don’t see much respite till Talaash is released. In fact shooting of Rock On 2 would also begin only after June next year while the other films would be announced thereafter.”

The film in question will go on floors in April next year and is said to be a thriller detective film with Bachchan playing one of the detective roles. Gowariker says that the second detective and the rest of the cast is yet to be decided.

Aamir Khan's Upcoming Movie Talaash Trailer Together With the Release of Don 2

Guess this would be one of those rare scenarios where audience would be able to see Aamir Khan along with Shah Rukh Khan at the same place. No, they are not coming together for a film. However Aamir’s film Talaash would be making it’s presence felt along with Shah Rukh’s Don 2 since both films belong to the same production house.

“Yes, the First Look of Talaash would be attached to the prints of Don 2. It has been a call taken by producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Shah Rukh as well as Aamir are fine with it. For audience, this would be nothing less than a double whammy of sorts since it would be for the first time anything related to Talaash would be showcased”, informs out well informed source.

For last few months there have been immense speculations around the real plot of Talaash. Rumours have ranged from Aamir playing a cop to his spirit doing an investigation to Rani Mukerji playing his wife to Kareena enacting the character of a prostitute. However, the makers have chosen to stay mum all this while and are now using Don 2 as a platform to establish the real feel of the film.

“What also makes this further interesting is the fact that Shah Rukh and Aamir are also the co-producers along with Ritesh and Farhan on these respective films. Shah Rukh too is fine with promo of Aamir’s film being attached to his Don 2. Moreover there hasn’t been any real tension between Shah Rukh and Aamir even though latter is good pals with Salman”, the source continues.

This also translates into the fact that the makers of Talaash are now actively kick-starting an active promotional campaign full six months in advance. Even though this dramatic thriller directed by Reema Kagti would arrive only in June next year, everyone associated with the film feel that it would be good to reveal at least a little bit about Talaash well in advance so that all speculations can be quashed.

On contacted, Ritesh confirmed the news. He said, “Talaash is the final title and we would be unveiling the film along with Don 2.”

Review: Shakal Pe Mat Ja

Review: Shakal Pe Mat Ja
Review: Shakal Pe Mat Ja

There are times when fatigue sets in while watching the usual masala films that have precious little to offer in terms of content. The customary item songs, the much explored panoramic locales of Europe, the familiar dialogue and drama catering to the NRIs… how one longs for something fresh to come out in cineplexes that would pep you up again.

2011 has been a landmark year for Bollywood. Besides the success ratio which has shot upwards, the material churned out by dream merchants has been much better when compared to previous years. Irrespective of how these films fare, you cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that there has been a genuine effort to give the audience something fresh.

SHAKAL PE MAT JA doesn’t have a Khan, Kumar, Roshan or Kapoor starring in it, but it attempts to tell a story that’s refreshingly different. However, it’s the screenplay that plays a complete spoilsport. What could’ve been an interesting movie turns out to be part attention-grabbing, part drab, part prolonged. Wish this could’ve been another high-wit, low cost comedy that’s fun to watch, like TERE BIN LADEN.

SHAKAL PE MAT JA is a story of four young boys who get caught up as suspects at the Delhi International Airport. They get caught while capturing an aircraft landing on their camera, which they claim to have shot for a documentary that they are making. With their explanation and situation not being fruitful, they are brought into the interrogation room of the International Airport.

SHAKAL PE MAT JA is based on a true incident that occurred at Delhi Airport, according to first-time director Shubh. Though terrorism is a serious issue and the film tells the story of four youngsters, who are mistaken as terrorists, the director has interspersed light moments all through the narrative. But it’s the screenplay that doesn’t hold your interest after a point. A few moments are truly wonderful, but the writing goes awry towards the second hour.

There are too many jokes on flatulence, which, after a point of time, appear in poor taste. Besides, the finale with too many characters is amateurish and long-drawn-out and the film, for some reason, is devoid of excitement as it reaches its culmination. Of course, there are some zany moments, especially the sequence when the terrorist [Zakir Hussain] calls up from out of India, enquiring about the plan. Besides, the dialogue are truly bright and witty at places.

First-time director Shubh shows a flair for comic moments and like I pointed out earlier, a few sequences do make you smile/laugh. But the writing is devoid of fun and far from watertight. The title track is catchy and energetic. Cinematography is alright.

Shubh sports the right expressions and his body language adds power and effectiveness to the character he plays. Chitrak is okay in a few sequences, but his dialogue, at times, are incomprehensible. Pratik comes in his element towards the second hour. The kid is quite confident. Amongst veterans, Saurabh Shukla is top notch. In fact, he steals the show with a truly wonderful performance. Raghuvir Yadav is equally fantastic. Aamna Sharif does well, though her role could’ve been better developed. Zakir Hussain is first-rate. Aditya Lakhia succeeds in making you laugh. Mushtaq Khan, Joy Sengupta, Umang Jain and Rajkumar Kanojia appear in brief roles.

On the whole, SHAKAL PE MAT JA is one of those whacked-out satires that sounds far funnier on paper than on screen.
