Force Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Force Movie Review By Taran Adarsh
Force Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Remakes are in! With fast-paced action entertainers reaping gold at the box-office, Mumbai-based film-makers are making a beeline for South, acquiring remake rights of films that work big time with audiences of all ages. A few decades ago, Jeetendra hit the pot of gold by working in some wonderful remakes [of South films] and the trend seems to have re-surfaced thanks to the successes tasted by Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn more recently.

With FORCE, John Abraham re-visits the genre [action] that he attempted in DHOOM. He has the physique and the persona to carry off the part and make the character believable. Remake of the Tamil hit KAAKHA KAAKHA, which starred Suriya and Jyothika, FORCE packs the punches, the kicks, the blood and the bruises in those two hours. Essentially a fight between the good and the evil, there’s a restrained love story as well, which becomes the backbone of the plot.

FORCE borrows from the masala films of yore that popularized Indian cinema in 1970s and 1980s. Love, romance, deceit, treachery, revenge, loads of action… FORCE has it all. Sure, you may find the plotline clichéd and predictable, but if the film manages to keep you hooked, if the twists and turns are truly interesting, despite the predictable path the story undertakes, the purpose is served. Thankfully, FORCE gets it right!

Yashvardhan [John Abraham] is a senior narcotics officer who doesn’t play by the book, but always ensures that justice is served. He believes that the only way to eradicate crime is to give criminals the bullet — not handcuffs. In the midst of his most dangerous and significant operation to crack down on India’s drug cartels, Yashvardhan encounters a ruthless enemy Vishnu [Vidyut Jammwal], who will stop at nothing until he gets his revenge for the damage done to his business by the narcotics team.

Yashvardhan also meets the free-spirited Maya [Genelia D'Souza], whose love pushes him to make a choice between the life he already knows and the life he could have with her. Just when everything seems to be going right, the enemy strikes…

Director Nishikant Kamat has the viewers’ adrenalin pumping in this engrossing crime drama. Velocity and technique are the essence of FORCE. Add to it sharp dialogues and raw action. Though the storyline is far from novel, it is these attributes that keep you engrossed. Also, this deadly cat-and-mouse game ends in a spellbinding climax. Very frankly, the film has some fairly engrossing moments in the first hour, but there are times when you feel restless. But the post-interval portions work big time. The penultimate half-an-hour is the best part of the enterprise. It packs a solid punch, especially the raw action sequence between John and Vidyut.

Nishikant integrates the songs well in the movie. Even otherwise, the songs [Harris Jayaraj] are tuneful and well choreographed [Bosco-Caesar]. Cinematography [Ayananka Bose] is a visual treat. But it’s the raw action that stays with you. The action scenes [Allan Amin] are the type that will have the masses go in frenzy, especially these two sequences — the chase [John chases Vidyut, soon after Vidyut attacks him] and also the finale confrontation.

From showing off his chiseled body to lifting a 120 kg bike, John is a complete revelation and gives an outstanding performance. Robust in looks and smug with self-confidence, the young man matures into a full-fledged action hero with this film. With the additional pounds of muscles to his frame, he looks very convincing as the Narcotics Officer. It is obvious that John has worked really hard — honing his acting skills, concentrating on stunts and particularly on his physique.

Genelia is strikingly sweet and subdued. I genuinely feel that Genelia’s an under-rated actress, who’s capable of delivering if given an opportunity. Note the sequence when she proposes to John. It’s a difficult sequence which Genelia carries off so well. Besides, the on-screen chemistry between John and Genelia is infectious. The villain, portrayed by newcomer Vidyut Jammwal, is a worthy opponent, who is the proverbial Evil pitted against Good. His persona is striking and his performance, excellent. This guy is here to stay and his performance will be talked-about when the movie hits the screens.

Mohnish Bahl is top notch, especially towards the final moments. Sandhya Mridul is, as always, highly competent. Amit Gaurr does well. Kamlesh Sawant is convincing. Mukesh Rishi is perfect. Raj Babbar doesn’t get much scope. Ditto for Anaitha Nair, who is wasted.

On the whole, FORCE is an engrossing story of vendetta and the execution of the material makes it stand out in the crowd. The film has the requisite amount of zing and force, so essential for action movies that talk of heroism. If you are looking for a sensible masala film with substance, FORCE should most definitely figure on your agenda. Recommended!

Karisma Kapoor As Hema Malini in Upcoming Satte Pe Satta remake Movie

Sanjay Dutt, whose first production Rascals is due for release next week, is all set to go on floor with his second production which is the remake of 1982′s Satte Pe Satta, in December. Satte Pe Satta will be directed by Soham Shah, who has earlier made Kaal and Luck.

Sanjay Dutt will be seen playing the dual roles of Ravi and Babu which were played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original and Karisma Kapoor, who is making her Bollywood comeback with Vikram Bhatt’s project Dangerous Ishq, will be cast opposite him.

Kajol was the original choice for the role played by Hema Malini in the original but since she just delivered a baby, Sanjay didn’t want to pressurize her to return to the studio. Sanjay then approached his Lagey Raho Munnabhai co-star Vidya Balan for the role but she was busy with her other assignments. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also offered step into the shoes of Hema Malini, but she got pregnant. There were also talks of Madhuri Dixit Nene being approached for the same role but finally they decided on casting Karisma Kapoor as she is a fantastic actress and suits the role perfectly. Sanjay Dutt is also planning to request Amitabh Bachchan to introduce the characters in the remake.

Akshay Kumar Teaches Dance to Actress Chitrangada Singh

Akshay Kumar Teaches Dance to Actress Chitrangada Singh

We're not sure if Chitrangada Singh has two left feet, but if she's had to learn dance moves from Akshay Kumar (who isn't much of a dancer himself!) she surely must be missing a beat or two.

Apparently, the actress just could not get her steps right for a song sequence with Akki in Desi Boyz.

Choreographer duo Bosco-Ceasar tried their best as they had just a day to complete the shoot, but for some reason the lady couldn't really perfect the sequence.

Fortunately, for all concerned, B-Town's khiladi stepped up his game. "Akshay was really enjoying the sequence as he loved the track.

When he saw that Chitrangada was struggling with the steps, he readily pitched in to demonstrate the moves to her.

Everyone on the set was pretty surprised because Akshay has never really done this before," reveals a source.

Adds producer Krishika Lulla, "Askhay is an enthusiastic actor and he goes out of the way to help his co-actors."

Back to school
If the picture is anything to go by, the sequence is shot inside the Trinity college classroom, something only Bollywood can pull convincingly.

Akki apparently, not only showed her the moves, but also practiced it with her till she got it right.

"There are two other songs in the film with John and Akshay, which are almost like item numbers. Akshay has been doing a lot of dancing anyway during the shoot.

And as all the songs are being choreographed by Bosco and Ceasar, he got very comfortable with them," the source explains.

With the dismal performance of Speedy Singhs at the box-office, seems like Akki has decided to dance his woes away with a gorgeous lady in tow!

Well, this is what the cover of Stardust featuring Ranbir Kapoor on the cover for the month of October 2011 says.

We will have to wait to see what Ranbir really says in the interview. Meanwhile this will surely get some tongues wagging:)

————————————————————————————————————

Here are some excerps from the interview:

He denied dating Angela Johnson, Nargis Fakhri and Prerna Goel. (He was linked to the three women during the course of the last couple of months)

The next time someone gifts me condoms, I will say thank you for making me aware of safe sex.

I hope my generation goes a notch above. or else we will have the Khans ruling for another 20 years. I want my films to make 100 crores. I want my openings to be as big as the Khans.

If Sonam says I am not sexy. She really means it. She is not saying for the effect. If someone feels I am not sexy, my parents should feel sad, not me.

Finally Upcoming Dhoom 3 Movie Actress is Katrina Kaif

Finally Upcoming Dhoom 3 Movie Actress is Katrina Kaif
The hunt for a leading lady for “Dhoom: 3″ is over! Katrina Kaif will sizzle in the third instalment of the action-adventure series, which features Aamir Khan as the anti-hero. Yash Raj Films (YRF) had been on the lookout for a fresh face for the role, which was essayed by Esha Deol and Aishwarya Rai, in “Dhoom” and “Dhoom:2″, respectively. “After almost a year of searching for a new face for ‘Dhoom: 3′, we were still unable to find the perfect debutante to play the lead role. We even reached out to international talent but were still unable to find someone who stood out,” said director Vijay Krishna Acharya aka Victor. The choice was made jointly by Victor and producer Aditya Chopra. “Once we decided to go with a known face and not pursue the newcomer route, Katrina was the obvious choice for all of us,” Victor said in a YRF press statement Friday. Katrina has been riding high on the success of films like “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” and another YRF venture “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” earlier this year. “She is someone who we all know will bring tremendous enthusiasm and commitment to the film. The first time pairing of Aamir with Katrina will also certainly add value,” he added. “Dhoom: 3″ is written and directed by Victor, who had also written “Dhoom” and “Dhoom 2″. Apart from Aamir, both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue in their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali, respectively. The shooting will begin towards the end of this year. “Dhoom: 3″ is slated for a 2012 Christmas release.

Mausam Movie Review, Review of Mausam Movie

Mausam Movie Review, Review of Mausam Movie

Mausam Movie Review, Review of Mausam Movie

It’s become a ritual. Week after week, I make it a point to gauge audience expectations from a forthcoming movie on Twitter and Facebook. Based on what they have seen in the promos of a forthcoming film, or after listening to its soundtrack, the prospective viewers/moviegoers share their thoughts on the movie on my timeline. MAUSAM, I must add, had generated tremendous excitement prior to its release for varied reasons. One of the key reasons being, it is helmed by one of the most respected and accomplished actors of India — Pankaj Kapur. This, in my opinion, is also its unique selling proposition.

MAUSAM is being advocated as one of the greatest, epic love stories on celluloid. A story that talks of unconditional love against all adversities. First-time director Pankaj Kapur narrates a saga of star-crossed lovers facing various storms in their lives and of course, seasons. The story begins in the early 1990s and concludes a decade later, encompassing historical events that affected our lives — displacement of Kashmiri Pandits, Babri Masjid episode, Mumbai blasts, 9/11, Kargil war and Gujarat riots. Though the on-screen characters make a veiled attack on the atrocities inflicted on the common man, MAUSAM remains a love story at heart.

One has come to expect mesmeric romance and lilting tunes, backed by sensitive portrayals, from a true-blue romantic film. Unfortunately, MAUSAM suffers for the very reason that one may have assumed would be its biggest strength — writing. The screenplay, to put it bluntly, is unengaging and what makes it worse is the fact that it seems like a never-ending saga. The film just goes on and on and on, moving from one city/country to another, till the viewer gets jetlagged and exhausted by watching this saga unfold on screen. With a running time of close to 3 hours, MAUSAM has a few sequences that do stand out, but the weak script blows the efforts away.

MAUSAM starts with mere adolescent attraction between a Punjabi boy Harry [Shahid Kapoor] and a Kashmiri girl Aayat [Sonam Kapoor] in a small village of Punjab. It develops into young love between them in season two. Their love realizes its own depth in the hours of separation through season three. In the fourth and final season, their love culminates into togetherness. But not before sacrificing a lot personally and learning the truth behind universal love.

MAUSAM has an old-world charm, no two opinions about it. The magic of the good old days is delectable and it’s a great feeling to go back in time. Right from the setting to the costumes to the overall ambience, the film succeeds in pulling you back in time. But like I pointed out at the outset, the writing leaves a sour taste in your mouth. It lacks meat.

Let me elaborate. The transition from Season 1 [in Punjab] to Season 2 [in Scotland] seems most unreal. The transition from a small village in Punjab to a palatial mansion and shop in Scotland remains a mystery. It truly baffles you. Also, when Sonam accidentally spots Shahid in Scotland, after a gap of many years, you’d expect her to rush up to him; if not hug him, at least make him aware that they’ve finally found/traced each other. But she doesn’t, till he traces her and leaves a note for her. Why does Sonam evade him on the street first and at the concert later? Those in love would jump at the very first opportunity to rekindle an old flame, right?

The graph of the film moves downwards with each passing episode. The war and the aftermath doesn’t work, the Switzerland incident [when Shahid spots Sonam and chases her again, only to find her with someone else], though well shot, adds to the length, while the finale in Ahmedabad — the climax — is far from convincing. Besides, the lovers cross paths so many times that it doesn’t come across as a coincidence anymore. Also, their reunion doesn’t make you feel euphoric at all. The film doesn’t end at that. There’s an element of heroism injected in the finale moments of the film and it is so ridiculous that you actually rub your eyes in disbelief. Seriously, Mr Kapur, what were you thinking when you wrote this part?

Pankaj Kapur is a brilliant actor, but he has a long, long way to go when it comes to writing a screenplay and telling a story without stretching it. There’s no denying that he has handled a number of sequences adroitly, but after a point, MAUSAM becomes a tedious experience that sets in boredom and tests the patience of the viewer. The production values are top notch and producers Sheetal Vinod Talwar and Sunil Lulla deserve credit for giving the film a gargantuan look. The soundtrack of MAUSAM [Pritam] is a delight for listeners. The songs that stand out are ‘Sajh Dhaj Ke’ and ‘Rabba Main Toh Mar Gaya Oye’. Binod Pradhan’s cinematography is remarkable.

It must have been a challenge of sorts for Shahid and Sonam to get the roles right. For, both sport not one, but varied looks in the film. Shahid gives his all to this role, submitting himself to his director-father to mould him the way he chooses to. It won’t be erroneous to state that Shahid surpasses all his previous performances, including the one in KAMINEY, with this film. The film also marks the coming of age of this actor. For Sonam, MAUSAM will prove to be a turning point in her career. Astonishing — that would be the right word to describe her work this time around. The confidence with which she handles the distinct characterization speaks volumes.

Supriya Pathak Kapur is first-rate. Anupam Kher is wasted. Manoj Pahwa is wonderful, as always. The actors essaying the role of Sonam’s father and sister are natural. Vaibhav Talwar gets no scope. Aditi Sharma excels in a brief role.

On the whole, MAUSAM is a colossal disappointment!

Speedy Singhs Movie Review, Review of Speedy Singhs

Speedy Singhs Movie Review, Review of Speedy Singhs
Speedy Singhs Movie Review, Review of Speedy Singhs

Cricket, Hockey, Football, Boxing… now Ice Hockey! Sport-centric films are gradually finding their way on the Hindi screen. BREAKAWAY aka SPEEDY SINGHS brings several knows names from U.S., Canada and India in this cross-cultural family drama with Ice Hockey as the backdrop.

Like BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM much earlier and PATIALA HOUSE more recently, SPEEDY SINGHS also looks at the generation gap between the older generation [Anupam Kher, in this case], who hold tightly to traditional values and the younger generation [Vinay Virmani], who have already adapted themselves to the adopted country [Canada]. SPEEDY SINGHS has a plot you can connect with instantly, but the film suffers on varied counts.

It’s not sacrilegious to be inspired by a foreign source [BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM], but the writer/s should’ve ensured that they explore/depict issues that haven’t been witnessed earlier. SPEEDY SINGH merely scratches the surface, but doesn’t delve deeper into issues plaguing people of Indian origin living in Canada. Also, Ice Hockey may be the most popular sport there, but it’s hard known in India and that robs the film of the excitement and euphoria that’s attached to the sport. Besides, most importantly, the execution of the material throws a wet blanket. A desi director, I feel, would’ve been able to the address the issues and merge the sport in the narrative more effectively. On second thoughts, given the poor screenplay of the film, there’s not much even an accomplished director would’ve achieved.

Rajveer [Vinay Virmani] dreams of a professional hockey career. Unquestionably, he has the talent to be an accomplished player, but faces many hurdles. His goal is to succeed in a traditional white man’s sport, but this conflicts with his father’s wish that he devote his life to his religion and the family business.

Unable to find a foothold in the game, Rajveer takes matters into his own hands by creating an all-Sikh hockey team [Speedy Singhs], finding a coach [Rob Lowe] and then bringing on his Uncle Sammy’s [Gurpreet Ghuggi] trucking company as the team sponsor, doing all this behind his father’s back. Along the way to the championship game, he is faced with the questions he had not wanted to address.

SPEEDY SINGHS had the potential and also the opportunity to be *the* crossover film that would appeal to the diaspora as well as the gora audiences across the globe. The marriage of Bollywood with a popular sport could’ve ensured a spot in the international arena, but, like I pointed out earlier, the film has its limitations. The writing is patchy, the characters are superficial, the drama doesn’t work and even the culmination to the story, which should’ve been the hallmark, lacks the fizz to make you jump with joy. The film, very honestly, comes across as a poor clone of the successful Gurinder Chadha movie BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM.

Besides, the Ice Hockey scenes are plain ordinary and leave no impact whatsoever. Also, the feeling of euphoria is completely missing, when Speedy Singhs win the match. As for the songs, the soundtrack is lilting, especially ‘Shera Di Kaum’ and ‘Aaja Veh’, but the songs seem forced in the narrative, especially ‘Aaja Veh’.

As Rajveer, Vinay Virmani is charming for his first film. He shows promise and has the potential to be a better actor in times to come. Russell Peters raises a few laughs, but his character is under-developed. Anupam Kher is his usual self, essaying a part he has essayed several times in the past. Rob Lowe is serviceable, while Camilla Belle is efficient. Gurpreet Ghuggi is strictly okay, Noureen DeWulf sparkles and Sakina Jaffrey is interesting. Akshay Kumar makes a cameo in the film — in a sequence first and in the song during the end credits.

On the whole, SPEEDY SINGHS fails to deliver.

Ranbir Kapoor Starring Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani opposite Deepika Padukone

Dharma Productions which already has Agneepath, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Student Of The Year up for release next year, has announced their next project Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. YJHD will be directed by Ayan Mukerji, who earlier made Wake Up Sid for the same banner.

The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. This is the first time Deepika will be working with Dharma Productions. There was a lot of speculation as to who would be paired opposite Ranbir in the film. There were talks of Anushka Sharma or Katrina Kaif being approached for the role, but Deepika managed to bag the film, as Karan, Ayan and Ranbir were convinced that she is the best for the role. Deepika and Ranbir were seen together in Bachna Ae Haseeno and though they didn't have much screen time together, their chemistry was electrifying. Their celluloid chemistry will be exploited to the fullest in YJHD.

The line Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani is taken from the famous R.D. Burman song from the 70s hit Jawani Deewani. While Wake Up Sid was a coming of age film Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani will be a hardcore romantic film.

Karan Johar tweeted, "So hey...Ranbir and Deepika will be in Ayan mukerji's next titled...YEH JAWANI HAI DEEWANI!!! The wake up sid boys on the floors from jan!!"

Anushka Sharma Upcoming Movie Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola Opposite Anushka Sharma

Fox Star Studios, Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures, Ajay Devgn Films & Wide Frame Pictures have come together to make a hilarious new film uniquely titled Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. The film has a hugely talented star cast with Ajay Devgn and Anushka Sharma being paired together for the first time ever. Vishal Bhardwaj will don multiple roles of producer, director, writer and music composer for this ambitious project.

“Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a very special film for us at Fox Star Studios – it brings together the extremely talented director Vishal Bhardwaj, Bollywood’s most successful and consistent actor across genres Ajay Devgn and the industry veteran Kumar Mangat of Wide Frame. We believe the nationwide appeal of this hilariously rustic comedy, the coming together of great talent and a title which raises eyebrows will make this an eventful film for audiences in 2012,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios.

“I have had the idea for this comedy in my head for a long time, almost 8 years. It’s a totally new genre and completely different from what I have done in my previous 7 films. I was also missing working with Ajay for some time. He is such great actor and an even greater human being. I am so much in sync him that the wait to be on set is killing. As for Anushka, I would say that she is a ball of energy and I am looking forward to shooting with her,” said producer and director Vishal Bhardwaj

“Vishal Bhardwaj is an incredible director who has the ability to bring out the best in any actor. When Vishal told me that he was looking at creating a comedy & he narrated the script I was immediately excited and became a part of this project in more ways than one – as an actor as well as a producer,” says actor-producer Ajay Devgn.

Meanwhile Kumar Mangat of Wide Frame Pictures adds, “I have known Ajay for a long time and working with him has always been a pleasure. I am really happy that we have managed to get great partners together on this exciting project. With the combination of fantastic talent, the strength and skills of Fox Star Studios & with Vishalji directing, I feel we have a great film on our hands already.”

Gulzar will be writing the lyrics for this film. The music will definitely connect with audiences in its unique rustic/folklore ways, which will add hugely to the wonderful combination of the skills and talent involved in this project.

From the looks of it, this is certainly one film to watch out for in the second half of 2012.

Malaika Arora again in Item Song in Housefull 2 Movie

There is no doubt that Malaika Arora Khan is the uncrowned Queen of item numbers. Be it ‘Chaiyyan Chaiyyan’ or ‘Kaal Dhamaal’ or ‘Maahi Ve’ or the chartbuster ‘Munni Badnaam’, each of her item numbers have created a frenzy like none other.

Now Malaika will be seen sizzling on screen in yet another dhamakedaar item number in Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer Housefull 2. The item song will be choreographed by none other than Farah Khan and it promises to be hotter than ever.

It may be recalled that Malaika was even part of Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy and Housefull so it comes as no surprise that the filmmaker has once again decided to rope in Malaika for a special item song in Housefull 2.

We can’t wait to see the gorgeous Malaika once again set the screen on fire with her moves.

Abhishek Bachchan is getting in shape For Dhoom 3

Abhishek Bachchan is getting in shape For Dhoom 3
Abhishek Bachchan is getting in shape For Dhoom 3

Abhishek Bachchan shares the strict workout regime that he is following to get in shape for Dhoom 3

Abhishek Bachchan might probably be the only mainstream actor in Bollywood who hasn’t really bothered to get a chiselled body.

Not that this did him any good in two of his hit films, Dhoom and Dhoom 2. In fact, the anti-heroes of both the movies John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan walked away with whistles from the audiences

However, in the next film of the series, Dhoom 3, Abhi might be required to go topless and minus a jelly belly.

Especially when he is positioned opposite Aamir Khan who has only time and again proven that he can make and break a six-pack easily (remember Ghajini?).

With a series of stunt sequences planned for the next installment of this action flick, Abhi apparently wants to look nothing close to unfit.

So what does Junior Bachchan do? He designs an entire fitness plan for himself before he stars shooting the film in November.

Keeping it simple
Adds a source, “He doesn’t want to stretch his body beyond ability and so he has been indulging in basic daily workouts and healthy food.

Abhishek’s not going to get into six-pack mode, as he wants to keep it simple, yet healthy and good looking.”

Abhishek, who is currently shooting Bol Bachchan, works out for thirty minutes every day and eats every two hours. Adds the source, “His diet includes lots of protein and carbohydrate.

His workouts comprise of circuits training, weights and pull-ups. He also needs to bench press his own weight.”
We guess with the new regime pa-to-be who would be glowing a lot more than mum-to-be.

Abhi’s fitness mantra

Press-Ups: This classic exercise helps build muscle in the upper body for a limited time. Can be done anytime, just don’t lock the elbows

Lateral Raises: Don’t keep the arms directly straight and by your side. It causes too much pressure on the rotator cuff. Bend arms and have them face forward slightly

Pull Ups: One of the hardest exercise routines but one of the most beneficial. If you are struggling at the beginning just do half repetitions.

DIPS: Lower your body until your elbows reach 90 degrees. When you can do five sets of 10 add some weights to your waist.

Saif Ali Khan Says Will Talk About Marriage Next Year

Saif Ali Khan in a recent press interview had this to say – “Something big is definitely happening next year, for sure. This year we are going to focus on our film Agent Vinod and next year we are talking about marriage,” Saif said.

“If I start talking about my marriage from now, then people will shift their interest from the film to my marriage. I would not want that to happen. So, first things first,” he added.

Soha Ali Khan said – “They (Saif and Kareena) have been together for quite some time now and their relationship has grown over the years. I can hardly wait for the wedding next year. There will be a number of functions and I am very excited about what to wear,”

She was there to walk the ramp for designer Ramona Narang at the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour.

Madhuri Dixit Relocate Back to Mumbai, India

There is good news for all Madhuri Dixit fans. After living in Denver, USA for all these years after marriage, Bollywood’s dhak-dhak girl has now decided to relocate to India.

Madhuri quit Bollywood when she was at the top of her game, a shockingly unconventional move in an industry where stars hang around much after their time is up. She moved to Denver in US, after she married Dr. Shriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon in 1999. She lived a simple life of anonymity there with her husband and two sons Arin and Ryan; though she kept visiting India to fulfill her work commitments.

Madhuri’s last film was YRF’s Aaja Nachle in 2007. She also appeared as one of the judges in reality dance show ‘Jhalak Dikhla Ja’ this year and is currently also associated with leading Chef Sanjeev Kapoor for the Food Food channel.

Madhuri does not plan to buy a new house and intends to stay in her Juhu apartment with her family when she shifts here. She is now working on turning it into a kid-friendly pad. She has also begun looking for a school for her kids Arin (Class 3) and Ryan (Class 1).

She posted on her twitter page, “For all my fans, we r relocating to India! It will b good to b back home.”

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Movie Music Review

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Movie Music Review
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Movie Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

There are decent (though not extraordinary) expectations from the music of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster. After all, the film hasn’t been promoted as a musical and there aren’t any major/established names on the credit details either. Moreover unlike its similar sounding counterpart Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, this Tigamanshu Dhulia affair hasn’t claimed itself to be a musical classic in the making. With hopes of something that may just end up being a tad surprising, one plays on Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster that has multiple composers at the helm of affairs with Sandeep Nath as the lyricist.

MUSIC

First to arrive is Jaidev Kumar’s ‘Jugni‘, a Punjabi track which has a folk base to it. No wonder the same tune was also heard in Tanu Weds Manuearlier this year with just a slightly different presentation. Sung and written by Baboo Mann, the song has anyways been established as a popular chartbuster ever since Mika sung it for Kangna. Now with a version being created for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, one doesn’t have any complaint whatsoever.

Shell Hada sings ‘Main Ek Bhanwra‘ which basically belongs to the Mohit Chauhan territory and has a soft tune to it. Sandeep Nath writes for a protagonist who is wondering whether he has done the right thing by thinking big and falling in love despite all the adversities around him. One does miss the spark in this Amit Sial composition though which seems like a drag instead of exciting you as a listener and ends up sounding like a sad track that may only slower the pace of the film’s narrative.

There is an attempt to jazz up the proceedings with ‘I Love To Love You‘ which has a 70s style beginning to it, only to get into a ‘Munni Badnaam‘ mode as Rekha Bharadwaj opens up further. Composed by Anuj Garg, it is basically targeted at the interiors and has its chances only if it is complimented by visuals that go by the mood and setting for which it has been created. As a standalone song though it turns out to be ordinary and only makes one start wondering whether it is indeed the kind of song that one was expecting in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.

Next to arrive is Sunil Bhatia composed ‘Chu Chu‘ which is a love song that arrives twice with Parthiv Gohil and Debojit Saha singing a solo version each. A love song which is set in the 60s mode when tracks like these were composed for Shammi Kapoor, Biswajeet Chatterjee or Joy Mukherji, ‘Chu Chu‘ doesn’t quite make you grab it with both hands in the first listening. However after a couple of listening you do warm up to the song to some extent at the least as it ends up being reasonably likeable.

Abhishek Ray composes ‘Raat Mujhe‘ which again has 70s written all over it and makes one feel that if only Asha Bhonsle would have sung this track, it may have gone to an altogether different level. On the same lines as a RD Burman-Gulzar composition though a tad lesser in making an overall impact, ‘Raat Mujhe’ sees Shreya Ghoshal coming behind the mike. Though the singer does well in her own capacity, the song’s setting and genre is such that one can’t help but miss the senior singer to bring back the 70s nostalgia.

Vipin Aneja comes along with Ankit Tiwari (who is also the composer here) for ‘Saheb Bada Hatila’ which in true terms is the theme track of the album. A kind of composition that reminds one of the soundtracks that one had experienced in Yeh Saali Zindagi earlier this year, ‘Saheb Bada Hatila‘ manages to detail the essence of the film and explains the characterisation of ‘Saheb’, ‘Biwi’ and ‘Gangster’ here. A fusion number that has Indian classical coming together with rock, this number deserves to be played at various junctures in the film’s narrative so as to enhance its momentum.

Last to arrive is Mukhtar Sahota composed ‘Ankhian‘ which is an Arif Lohar solo. A slow paced number which has an intrinsic sad appeal to it, ‘Ankhian‘ – just like ‘Main Ek Bhanwra‘ – threatens to slow down the film’s pace.

OVERALL

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster tries to pack in everything from an item number to a traditional dance song to a couple of semi-classical numbers and a theme song. However the end result is mixed with a couple of songs managing to attract one’s attention while the rest turning out to be just about okay. Though there isn’t any song that makes you look the other way, at the end of it all you end up selecting only a couple of them that may be heard for some time even after the film’s release.

Tere Mere Phere Movie Music Review

Tere Mere Phere Movie Music Review
Tere Mere Phere Movie Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

One doesn’t quite play on Tere Mere Phere with many expectations. Reason being that the film isn’t quite arriving with much fanfare and despite names like Vinay Pathak and Ketan Mehta associated with the project, overall hype isn’t the kind that would have made one stand up and notice what is in the offing. Moreover the music too is composed by a first timer Shivangi Kashyap (not to be mixed up with Shivani Kashyap) and since Tere Mere Phere hasn’t been promoted as a musical, apprehensions only rise further.

MUSIC

Album begins with ‘Hey Dude I Don’t Like Shaadi‘ which opens with the ‘remix’ sound of Tere Mere Phere (full fledged title song comes later) and has Rishi Singh singing in a style which was earlier associated with the likes of Bali Brahmabhatt (remember him?). The song doesn’t quite flow in any particular direction as Shivangi Kashyap chips in a little while later with her English rendition and gets into a pop mode. Both singers are also the co-writers of this song which seems to be composed for the title sequence and lasts a mere two minutes without making much of an impression.

Next to arrive is ‘Bum Bhole‘ which instantly makes one hunt for Kailash Kher who has sung a track on similar lines a few years back. However the man behind the mike this time around is Sukhwinder Singh who tries to bring in all the energy that is associated with him. However overall the song just about follows the set pattern when it comes to songs of this genre. Written by Manoj Muntashir with Shivangi Kashyap chipping in with Himachali bits, ‘Bum Bhole‘ is situational and doesn’t quite end up exciting one much.

When it is a Hindi film, a song with Punjabi flavour is more or less a must regardless of its setting. This is pretty much apparent with Manoj Muntashir written ‘Ishq Khumari‘ where Shivangi Kashyap is a co-lyricist yet again for the Punjabi part. Sung with aplomb by Baba Sehgal, one of the major outcomes of the song is to remind listener of this singer who sounds just the same as he did a decade and a half back. It is surprising that Baba Sehgal isn’t singing much today when there is a growing market for Punjabi singers’ film after film. Coming back to the song, Shivangi Kashyap too comes behind the mike and does a good job.

With its first truly enjoyable number ‘Ishq Khumari‘ bringing some life back, the album moves on to the title song ‘Tere Mere Phere‘. One can see a good influence of Sandesh Shandilya in this love song which has melody at its core with a Western styling to it that makes it a pleasant hearing. The song also marks the arrival of Ketan Mehta as the lyricist with Shivangi Kashyap and Subhash Pradhan pairing up to create a lovey-dovey atmosphere.

There is further surprise in store with Anup Jalota leaving his ‘bhajan’ mode behind and getting into a much more contemporary avtar by singing ‘Tere Bina‘ which is quintessentially Bollywood. Not that the song is great shakes by any means, all that this Manoj Muntashir written number ends up doing is reminding a listener of ‘Tera Intezaar‘ [Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! ] which had similar arrangements and pace. The man who composed the song then? Sandesh Shandilya again!

OVERALL

Tere Mere Phere is an okay album with a song or two managing to catch your attention. Given the fact that the film is seeing controlled promotion and is arriving amidst a heap of other films, it would be a tough journey ahead for the music too to make its presence felt.

Rajinikanth Cameo Role In Upcoming Shahrukh Khan Movie Ra. One

Rajinikanth Cameo Role In Upcoming Shahrukh Khan Movie Ra. One
Rajinikanth Cameo Role In Upcoming Shahrukh Khan Movie Ra. One

This is a great piece of news. Ra.One will definetely be a hit in the south now that Rajni is making a cameo in the movie after his health issues.

Rajini fans won’t have to wait for too long before seeing him again on screen. Come Diwali, and the southern megastar will light up the screens with a special appearance in RA.One.

It seems the brief appearance is a Rajinikanth’s gift to his fans who prayed frantically during his illness. SRK who is paying a tribute to Robot in the film was earlier planning to take Rajini’s duplicate in the film. But he tried his luck, approached and convinced Rajinikanth to give a nod to the role.

According to sources, the said sequence would be shot in Hyderabad on October 4 at Ramoji Film City. “In the sequence he will deliver his super-hit dialogue from the film Bhasha,” a source told the Mumbai Mirror.

However, full-fledged shooting will have to wait till November. “Rajini has recovered. He will resume full fledged shooting from November. Till then he will be on rest,” the superstar’s elder brother Satyanarayana Rao Gaekwad told the tabloid.

Details of Rajini’s guest appearance
In the scene, SRK is seen fighting with a gang of villains and faces another threat from a gang armed with deadly weapons. At this point, Rajini makes an entry, ‘Rajni Style’ in a car. The super powered vehicle immediately sucks up all the weapons from the villains prompting SRK to ask Kareena, who that man in the car was. That’s when Rajinikanth steps out and delivers his super-hit dialogue.

That should be enough to make Rajini’s fans go berserk

Aamir Khan Upcoming Movie On Three Musketeers novel
The popular novel, “Three Musketeers” which is written by Author Alexandre Dumas’ is all set to become a Bollywood movie.
If buzz is to be believed, It’s going to be Aamir Khan and Priyanka who would be essaying the prominent roles. Reportedly, PVR Pictures are in talks with the distributors of the Hollywood film.

According to a source, “They are considering casting Aamir as the Duke of Buckingham and Priyanka as Milady de Winter, who is one of the antagonists in the film. But the actors to play three musketeers are still not known.”

Have your say: Will Priyanka and Aamir make a pair???

Priyanka Chopra, it seems, is carrying her penchant for method acting as far as it can go.

For her previous roles in Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf, Priyanka gained and lost weight so drastically that it affected her metabolism and health severely.

Now for Anurag Basu’s Barfee, last week in Ooty, Priyanka has done an Anna Hazare, so to speak.

For a sequence that required her character to be locked away in a room for three days without food, water or any company, PC declared she would go the whole hog. No faking for the character, she declared.

Says a source, “At first Ranbir laughed off Priyanka’s method acting. Tu Marlon Brando hai kya, the actor joked. He told her to ‘just act’ the sequence.

But PC was adamant. She made it very clear to Anurag that she would actually go through her character’s ordeal for three days.”

All attempts to dissuade the actress failed and Anurag had to give in. However, the director had a condition, that he too, will join her.

Says a source, “To Anurag, who had written the character and the sequence, it seemed unfair that Priyanka should go at it alone.

He insisted on going through what the actress’ character suffers when confined to a solitary life. Only then did Anurag allow Priyanka to go through the harrowing experience herself.”

Significantly, both Anurag and Priyanka have health issues and could ‘ill’ afford the luxury of “living” their character’s trauma. In fact, PC has earlier suffered two bouts of fatigue and nervous exhaustion, which put her in the hospital.

The Barfee experience of staying without food, water and company for three days has been serious pressure on the health of both the actress and the director. Priyanka, we are told, remained silent and unresponsive for a week after the shooting.

Says the source, “We all tried to dissuade both of them from this madness. But they wouldn’t listen. First Anurag locked himself away in the room in Ooty that Priyanka’s character was supposed to be confined in. And then she went through the three-day isolation.”

The spokesperson for Barfee confirmed the above story.

Akshay Kumar plays a cameo Role in His Upcoming Production Speedy Singhs

Akshay Kumar plays a cameo Role in His Upcoming Production Speedy Singhs
Akshay Kumar plays a cameo Role in His Upcoming Production Speedy Singhs

Even as Akshay Kumar is gearing up to bring his international collaboration Speedy Singhs / Breakaway on screen globally, here is one piece of news which was just come in after being kept under the wraps all this while. As has turned out to be the case, Akshay’s music video with Grammy Award winning American rapper and actor Ludacris isn’t the only contribution that he is making to the film. He would in fact also appear on screen at an important juncture in the film’s narrative.

Reveals our source, “Yes, apart from the song, Akshay would be seen in the film during a talkie part as well. The makers had refrained from revealing it to the audience earlier on as they didn’t want attention to go away from the film and its debutant lead actor Vinay Virmani. However, the truth is that Akshay has shot for the film as well.”

Now this is quite an interesting development because traditionally Akshay has always stayed away from doing any cameos even for friends and close acquaintances right through his two decade career. The only exceptions he has made so far are for Farah Khan (Om Shanti Om), Milap Zaveri (Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai) and Lara Dutta (Chalo Dilli).

“In fact earlier on there were talks that he won’t be making any appearance in Speedy Singhs. However, as the film gathered steam, he decided to do a scene as well in addition to the special music video for ‘Shera Di Kaum Punjabi’. How relevant does it eventually turn out to be for the film is something that would be known only when the film sees a global release for itself”, the source continues.

Expectedly the cast and crew of the film as well as Akshay is tight lipped around the extended cameo. However, when contacted, Vinay Virmani confirmed the news piece.

“Yes, Akshay is there in the song and also has a very special cameo in the film. Now don’t ask me about any additional details because if I utter a single word, I would be in a lot of trouble”, laughs Vinay.

He adds on a serious note, “Akshay has been like a big brother to me. He has done so much for me personally as well as professionally. Now to see him step into the film for a song and a cameo is something that I will never forget.”

Hope this ‘special cameo’ turns out to be as unforgettable too!
