Shahid Kapoor Upcoming Movie Mausam Will Now Release in September

Shahid Kapoor Upcoming Movie Mausam Will Now Release in September
Shahid Kapoor Upcoming Movie Mausam Will Now Release in September

The mighty clash has been averted! 22 July was supposed to witness the release of two keenly-anticipated biggies -- SINGHAM and MAUSAM -- but the confrontation of raw action and romance has been avoided. While SINGHAM is confirmed for 22 July [the theatrical trailer has been attached to the prints of READY], MAUSAM has been shifted ahead, to 9 September.

However, let me add, the shifting of MAUSAM to 9 September has nothing to do with an equally mighty opponent [SINGHAM]. The genuine reason is that MAUSAM director Pankaj Kapur has asked for an extra month for the post-production work of the film. In view of the fact that the film has shaped up exceptionally well, the director and also the producers of MAUSAM have decided against hurrying up and releasing their film in July.

Meanwhile, the writer had the opportunity to witness the theatrical trailer of MAUSAM and was left speechless and awestruck by the impact it created. The trailer depicts the varied looks of its principal characters [Shahid Kapoor, who looks debonair and Sonam Kapoor, who looks ethereal] and also merges romance, drama and conflict beautifully in those 2 minutes.

The first theatrical trailer of MAUSAM will be launched on 24 June [with DOUBLE DHAMAAL], while the second trailer will be launched on 15 July [with ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA]. MAUSAM hits the screens on 9 September.

Kucch Luv Jaisaa Movie Review, Review Of Kucch Luv Jaisaa Movie

'Odd couples' aren't a new occurrence as few would choose to believe. By 'odd couples' I don't mean the difference in age, but difference in personality and temperament, also ideologies, in addition to a diametrically opposite outlook towards life. The Hindi film industry has depicted the diverse-as-chalk-and-cheese characters with amazing regularity. Recall LAMHE, EK CHOTI SI LOVE STORY, NISHABD, PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS, CHAMELI, MR & MRS IYER... More recently CHEENI KUM, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, PYAAR IMPOSSIBLE, JAB WE MET, WAKE UP SID, ISHQIYA, DIL TOH BACHHA HAI JI, 7 KHOON MAAF, TANU WEDS MANU and CHALO DILLI.

KUCCH LUV JAISAA, directed by Barnali Ray Shukla, also depicts an odd couple. The woman is a bored housewife, while the guy is on the run. They share nothing in common. But opposites attract… Interesting idea, isn't it? In fact, a lot of people who lead a boring, monotonous existence might identify with this thought. Unfortunately, KUCCH LUV JAISAA just doesn't turn out as exciting as the one-line concept. It loses the plot after a promising start.

What could've been an amusing, at times dramatic, but relatable fare that looks at the sensitive relationship between a married couple and also between a married woman and a gangster fails to deliver due to a messy screenplay that only gets bizarre and boring as it progresses. In fact, the sequence of events become uninteresting and tedious after a point and what makes it worse is the fact that there's no remedy in sight. There's nothing to salvage the film… not even the performances from its lead actors.

It's 29 February and is Mrs. Madhu Saxena's [Shifaali Shah] birthday. It comes once in four years and her husband has forgotten her birthday. Her husband [Sumit Raghavan] has been taking her for granted and her marriage is getting into a fatigue zone. She has two options; she can choose to sulk or reinvent herself. She chooses the latter. And she meets Raghav [Rahul Bose].

Raghav is a criminal on the run. Today is also Raghav's birthday and he is choosing this day to make a life-changing decision. He wants to marry the woman he loves [Neetu Chandra], but fate has other plans. A casual conversation between Madhu and Raghav ensues; she mistakes him for a detective and Raghav takes this cue. He continues to pretend he is one. The remaining story is about Madhu and Raghav coming to terms with certain truths.

Barnali Ray Shukla, who has also penned the film, takes you on a journey that's devoid of any excitement whatsoever. You expect fireworks when opposites meet, but the writer-director crams those two hours with sequences and episodes that fail to hold your attention. Fine, the woman is upset with her husband and is avoiding his calls, but you definitely expect her to stay in touch with her school-going kids. But she doesn't. In fact, she continues to chase a person [Amin Hajee] at Rahul's behest, for no particular reason. Much later, when she realizes that the guy is a gangster, instead of walking out on him or alerting the cops, she chooses to drive him to safety, outside the city limits. And the sequence between Shifaali and her school-going daughter towards the end - what was that?

Shifaali is an extremely competent actor who has impressed us in the past, but is not too convincing this time. She emotes well in a couple of scenes, but goes over the top at times. Rahul is completely ill at ease playing a tapori gangster. From some strange reason, one can't help but draw parallels with Aamir's character in RANGEELA, which remains the yardstick to this date. Neetu Chandra doesn't get scope. Sumit Raghavan handles his part well. Amin Hajee is passable. Om Puri appears in a cameo.

On the whole, KUCCH LUV JAISAA fails to deliver. An exercise in boredom and monotony!

Devgn requests Salman to attach Singham's promo with Ready, which releases on June 3

Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan have recently been bonding over workouts and general fitness. Reveals a source, "When Salman saw Ajay's bare-bodied look in Singham he loved it so much that he immediately called him up and complimented him on it. Since then they have been discussing and sharing tips on fitness and health."

When Devgn requested Khan to attach the Singham promo with Ready (releases June 3), the star personally called up his producer Bhushan Kumar and asked him to do the needful. AJ has even promised to show the film to Sallu, on his return from London.

Says an insider, "Everyone knows that Salman goes all out to promote the films he loves. Many people including Aamir Khan's Delhi Belly, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, Ghayal 2 and Chillar Party have attached their promos to Ready's prints."

Bhushan says, "It's a pleasure attaching Ajay's Singham with Ready. Salmanbhai put in the request. Ajay has also done a cameo in Ready. All the makers of the top films releasing in the next few months have wanted to attach their promos with Ready."

Singham director Rohit Shetty says, "Ajay is dubbing for the promo in London. Ready is looking big and is expected to take a huge opening. Ajay and I had always planned for the first promo to come with it, so he spoke to Salman about it. The film releases in July."

eroes in Bollywood demand for their share of profits from films. It seems Aishwarya Rai is all set to change the rules in the industry. The buzz is that Ash has slashed her remuneration price and instead has demanded a share in the profit of her upcoming film Heroine. Madhur Bhandarkar, who is making the film is known for making tight budget films.

UTV Motion Pictures along with Bhandarkar Entertainment, director Madhur and the lead stars of Heroine have taken a conscious decision to stick to a budget of Rs 18 crore.

We know that Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut, was made in less than Rs 15 crore. But, with Ash and Arjun Rampal in the lead a budget of Rs 18 crore is certainly a limited amount. So, what we learnt is that Ash and Arjun have decided to slash their fee.

Instead, they will be sharing the profits of the film. They are confident of Heroine's prospects at the box office. UTV, is certain that the film will do great business and thus they are assured that they can divide the profits with Ash and Arjun. The film is slated to go on the floor on June 8.

Aamir's Delly Belly n Amitabh's BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP clash

Aamir's Delly Belly n Amitabh's BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP clash
Aamir's Delly Belly n Amitabh's BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP clash

The season's looking bright. And the promos of ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, DOUBLE DHAMAAL, BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP, DELHI BELLY, BHEJA FRY 2 and SHAITAN are proof that the moviegoers have lots to look forward to in the coming weeks. While the promo of ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA has caught the attention of the youth, with people even comparing this Zoya Akhtar-directed film to bro Farhan's directorial debut DIL CHAHTA HAI, Indra Kumar's DOUBLE DHAMAAL is expected to be pure fun... errr, double dose of fun and entertainment from the four jokers and Sanjay Dutt, who have Kangna and Mallika for company this time.

But it's the 'D.K. Bose' song from DELHI BELLY and the 'angry man is back' promo of BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP that's the flavour of the season. Overnight, the films are being discussed and talked about for varied reasons. Ironically, the two films are expected to release on the same day [1 July] and the opinions are clearly divided.

The general consensus is that DELHI BELLY will be the first choice of the youth, while BBUDDAH - HOGA TERRA BAAP will appeal to masala film lovers and of course, Sr. Bachchan fans that have grown up on the angry young man films. While Aamir is known for his marketing skills and is also known to dominate the box-office whenever he arrives, an enthused Sr. Bachchan is also expected to go all out to promote the film.

The results would be keenly awaited!

Always Kabhi Kabhi Music Review, Music Review Of Ready Movie
Always Kabhi Kabhi Music Review, Music Review Of Always Kabhi Kabhi Movie

EXPECTATIONS

One does have decent expectations from the music of Always Kabhi Kabhi. After all it is a young romcom that gives ample space for Pritam to assemble his catchy tunes in one single album. With Shahrukh Khan as a producer, you expect an uncompromised approach when it comes to putting together the musical score for this film that stars fresh faces. Irfan Siddiqui writes lyrics for half the album.

MUSIC

What instantly catches your attention is the coming together of quite a few new names behind the mike. While a few of them have been tested before in a few songs before, for most this is their first ever opportunity. It is one such bunch comprising of Bhaven Dhanak, Sanah Moidutty and Harmeet Singh who come together for the title song 'Always Kabhi Kabhi' which has music by guest composers Aashish Rego and Shree D.

Surprisingly though the song sounds really ordinary with the kind of tune that just doesn't justify it's inclusion as a title track. Yes, it does try to get into fun, young and peppy zone but eventually turns out to be barely average. Thankfully the 'unplugged version' by Apeksha Dandekar and Vinnie Hutton sounds much-much better and though it too isn't the kind that you would be heard singing around, it at least promises to make an impression as a part of the film's background score

First impression is that of surprise and 'now what's that' when you come across the song which is titled 'Antenna'. Even the tune by itself doesn't quite fetch your attention instantaneously. However after repeated hearing, this Amitabh Bhattacharya written song does start catching up on you, so much so that you now want to hear it all over again. Picturised on Shahrukh Khan who makes a guest appearance as an 'item boy' in the album, 'Antenna' has the kind of beats that were heard last in Pritam-Shahrukh combine 'Love Mera Hit Hit' [Billu]. Benny Dayal and Apeksha Dandekar do their job quite well with Roshan Abbas too pitching in. Later the song also appears as a 'SRK mix' version, perhaps the first of it's kind with an actor's name in the song title, and continues the fun element, this time with K.K. and Anupam Amod joining Apeksha Dandekar.

Prashant Pandey is the third lyricist roped in for Always Kabhi Kabhi as he goes on to write 'School Ke Din'. A kind of track that does sound sweet-n-saccharine when seen and heard on screen, it is situational with a feel-good appeal to it as the bunch of young students get together to sing praises about their stint in school. While Suhail Kaul drives from the front, Ishq Bector adds on with his rap.

It's time for some quintessential High School Musical to be evidenced in 'Better Not Mess With Me' which comes in 'Rock Mix' as well as 'Club Mix' version. Though at places it does remind of 'You Are My Soniya' [Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham] , the situation here is totally different with Sunidhi Chauhan bringing on the attitude of a young girl who knows what she wants, is full of life and does things her own way. A catchy number written by Irfan Siddiqui, it should make a good impression on screen if it is picturised well.

The song that follows next appears to be an early 90s composition and reminds one of many a college flicks that were made in the era gone by. Shaan and Aditi Singh Sharma come together for this song which is supposed to be all fun and celebration. However eventually it all turns out to be just about okay with Irfan Siddiqui written 'Undi The Condi' not really promising anything remarkable for screen.

Thankfully Pritam gets an opportunity to get into his own zone with 'Jane Kyon' which is the kind of soft number that one expects from the composer at least once in an album of his. If the start is impressive, the pacing is just right in the subsequent portions as well with lyrics by Irfan Siddiqui and Roshan Abbas bringing in the pathos of the character. A love song with an element of sadness to it, 'Jane Kyon' deserves to be heard twice as a result of which it appears first in the 'Soul version' by Naresh Iyer and later in the 'Sufi version' by Shafqat Amanat Ali. Needless to say, both versions make an impact.

OVERALL

One expected lot more from Always Kabhi Kabhi than what one gets to hear eventually. It is not a bad album by any means but then it neither breaks any new grounds nor does it build upon something far better that Pritam has done over a period of time. Eventually it turns out to be a decent hear that stays consistent right from start to finish with no dips whatsoever. Due to this reason the score promises to be engaging enough as a part of the fim with 'Antenna', 'Jaane Kyon' and 'Better Not Mess With Me' turning out to be pick from the lot.

Antenna, Jaane Kyon, Better Not Mess With Me
